New to the forum and model boats.............
« on: March 15, 2011, 08:58:07 pm »

Hi all, my names Lee, i live in Chester and am a complete newbie to models. I was given an hull of a narrowboat many years ago and am now in the process of getting it up and running, it measures 2 meters x 200mm ( i m guessing thats a 1/10th scale).

Its got a steel bottom and i m about to put a wooden top on it, but before that i need to put some wires in for lighting, could someone please tell me what size wire i need to use and how i go about such a task?. I forgot to mention i ve put the motor in with shaft and prop with 6v battery midships, and it goes and sits quite well on the water, i ll try and put some photos up when i can.

Well thats a bit about me and my project, i look forwrd to hearing from you.

Thanks in advance.

Wires should be of sufficient gauge to carry the expected current, so the size will depend on the current drawn by the lights. Many people use LEDs for lighting nowadays - these have so low a current draw that very thin wires are quite acceptable. Look up 'LED' on mayhem for further data - here is an example:  http://www.modelboatmayhem.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=152.0
