Miami crash boat building instructions
« on: March 26, 2011, 08:49:26 am »

Hello everybody (my first post...),
I am in between treatments for a brain tumor, and as a "Simple" project wish to build the Miami crashboat (MAGM2031) I have just ordered the plan. Please does anybody have  copy of the building notes, I think May 1976 MB? Thanks!
Best regards, Geoff Lonsdale
Bristol (who has spent hours in  picnic chair with coffees and a pile of MB's watching his wife/nurse gardening - not much difference there,
then...!) - just so happy to feel like starting a new project!)

Hi Geoff Clothears.   (love that name, was used by Mum a lot in the 50's)

Welcome to Mayhem, the best club on the Net. By the time you've read the 280  thousand posts you should be quite knowledgeable on putting a boat together.

I have loads of magazines but will have to go through them to see if i have the one you are looking for. I'm sure other members will have a look as well, as the planning of the build is as much fun as the actual build itself.    Any questions then just ask as we would be only to willing to help you.

Is this the one ?

Best of luck with your medicals

Hi there Geoff

Is this the article you are referring to – it is by John Pritchard – in the May 1976 Model Boats magazine?   If so, and, of course if you wish, I can send you the magazine.   I have a duplicate copy of this magazine – but – it is missing its front cover and it has a slight rip in it on the first page – the article pages are in good condition though (hence the duplicate).    Just pm me your address and I will send it to you if you wish.

The other thing I can think of is, I am sure Glynn of Glynn Guest fame, drew a plan for a Miami semi-scale crash boat I may be wrong, but I am sure there is a plan for a semi-scale one.

Hello again chaps,
Ken – “fantastic” video; thanks. That looks like the one.
I’ve had a “preview of the plan; it is a G Guest design, geared motor, his typical simple sheet construction.
John E – the magazine would give good reference for detailing, thanks! MODERATED. Will willingly refund postage!
Neil – thanks for your good wishes – much appreciated “in the circumstances”. I am feeling a bit frustrated, indoors on a Sunday morning when I should be out cycling (never miss a Sunday ride!) – my wife has gone out by herself, and just ‘phoned me whilst she was drinking coffee on the banks of the river Severn near Oldbury power station, watching the birds on the foreshore
Very best regards,
Geoff

Please PM John with your address rather than posting it on open forum

Hi Clothears,

Here is someone's build on the RC groups site.

http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=971966&highlight=miami+crash+boat

Looks simple enough to do, but if you get stuck then please ask away.  I didn't have the particular magazine you were after but it looks like John has a copy.

happy building

Hi Clothears
It 's not a good idea to post details like addresses on the open forum
Much better to use a PM

Perhaps one of the Mods could delete it

Hi, Clothears

Sounds like great activity - I have not built this one, but have admired its lines

If its the GG version, I probably have the copy of MB and if I can find it could arrange for it to get to you.  Please let me know if this would help

Snagette:  I am going to get some sun for a week, so will be packing, etc tomorrow.

The article in question runs to 7 pages. I scanned it in colour last night at reasonable quality.... it gives total files size of 22Mb...It would reduce in B&W, but not enough to post or send by email....

Let me know if you can't get any help locally and I will see what I can do...The article is in MB June 2006

Hello again chaps,
Thanks for all the kindness and information sent! I now have the copy of MB with the building instructions, and an "old" MB  with a full description of the boat. Excellent forum - great friendship. Thanks again - I'm off to buy some balsa...
