Nichimo 1/200th scale IJN Yamato
« on: October 05, 2010, 08:49:11 pm »

This is the model I had from 1999-2002 when for health reasons I had to sell her ( far too heavy a model for me to lift unfortunately ).

Very stable model to sail even though I didn't ballast her right down to the mark ( about 1/2" of anti-fouling showing ) and with the 4 large motors in her she didn't half shift !!

She had the motors in her when I got her , think she was waaay over powered tho , 4 540 sized motors I think , she wouldn't need half the power they kicked out tho. Think the model did over 20 knots real speed so waaay over scale lol

Don't have any other photos of her unfortunately , well not that I have the prints for at any rate. There should be a few spools worth of photos of her on the ponds at Mussleburgh back in 2001 but the prints are gone and I haven't found the strips of negatives yet.

She was almost completely built when I bought her from the model shop in the museum of flight ( it was closing down when I bought it ) and needed quite a few of the masts and smaller components fixed. Wish I'd been able to keep her but when my back got too bad she had to go

Think you mean the ones in the stern in photo 4 Martin , I'm not really sure they look to be more aesthetic than for any practical purpose. My books are upstairs packed away just now so I'll have a look in my Battleships of WW2 book when I find it see if there's anything in there about them

Fantastic model on the water but unfortunately for me just too heavy to lift    >>:-( >>:-( >>:-( >>:-(

They were boat hangers guys, the structure above, the lattice type thingyma bob's, were travelling cranes to haul the boats out and also lower them unless they used the aircraft cranes, not too sure on that one.
