Can anyone identify this hull?
« on: May 22, 2011, 12:58:06 pm »

Help please!

Some time ago I ordered plans and a hull from for the
"Celia May" launch from My Hobby Store. The plans came
as required but the hull was obviously wrong. Cost of
postage to reurn the thing from South Africa was more
than it was worth. Does anyone out there know what it is?
I might very well discover that I have always wanted to
build one. Sizes are: L 750 W 195 D 75 and it came with 2
sheets of styrene 660 x 230 - one 1,5 thick, one 1mm.
Thanks in advance for any information

John, Sorry I can't help with the hull, but I am not surprised you have had problems - from the same place I orders 4 books
on model boats last year - got 2 copies of the same book then eventually received the second book and three months later
got told the other books were out of stock and then got a bill for them. Definitely that company wants a bit of a sorting out.

hi ya John from another John and welcome to the forum

I think the vac-forming of the hull you received is the hull you want - 'Celia May' - if you have a close look at it, the two halves of the hulll are joined by the centre moulding at deck level and the deck looks as though it has a radius put on it, during the moulding process - so they can remove both halves of the hull in one go.

It seems strange for this to be moulded in plastic when the original was made from wood and aluminium and housed a steam engine - I would have thought the only thing you could put into this hull would be an electric drive.

Hope this is of some help.

I'll go with my mate bluebird, I reckon you have the right hull, although as it is moulded it looks like a catamaran.

Cut out the two halves and glue them together and away you go. :-))

Hi John, I am sure the others are right, take their advice.
I attach pictures of my one which I made many years ago.  It is a wooden version with electric power.  Thought you might like to see my treatment of the rudder mechanism, as there is not much room for it.

The deck lifts off as one, the stern tucks into an overlap and the red bollard has a screw beneath to locate into a captive nut.

Hope this may help, if you want 1Meg pictures just email me.
good luck Roy
