A spot of nostalgia:- My Father & His Club 1968-79
« on: June 14, 2011, 10:45:45 pm »

My Father started his boating life aged 21 although he dabbled a with the hobby for years as a child/young adult. these are the photos from him starting out in 1968 till when he retired as the Treasurer of the club. (I cannot answer questions quickly as I need to talk to my dad and his memory's not what it used to be)

This is my father ages just 21, from the far left  top row, the 2nd man in ( he's wearing the white shirt, black trousers and a full head of hair starting to lean towards the lake)

The rest of the photos are what he took over that time period of 11 years, there not in order.

but the first image is of an original 'fast electric speed boat' to which my dad chas said it cost more to build then his entire fleet (my dad had a lot of IC boats and engines believe me, a small fortune)

All other boats were either IC or Steam powered, no other elctric boats were in the club during that time period my dad was part of.

Ok guy's i hope you enjoyed the photos as much as i enjoyed sharing them with you, if you have question ask but i can't reply instantly about some things without asking my dad first, so please under stand I'm not ignoring questions I just simply can;t give you quick answers.

Thanks for listening RR

Ah!   Those were the days.  %)
Dad and I were members of the Mortlake Club for some years in the late 50's (ML 59 and 60)
So was a certain Mr. Burman

Great shots RR.

Reminds me of my very young days standing by the lake at Fleetwood, whshing I could make a boat as good as theirs and asking inane questions like "how much did it cost mister"  or "how long did it take yer to make it mister"

Ahhh, those were the days. once in your blood...it's like motorcycling..........you can never get it out! O0 O0 O0

Pure nostalgia .
I seem to recognize in this picture third from the left a very youthful  John Cundell ?

Thanks for taking the time to post all of these pictures

Fantastic archive. I was drooling over some of those engines. I spotted a couple of E. Westbury designs I think.
