Vic Smeeds SS Painted Lady
« on: June 09, 2011, 02:26:24 am »

I just got the modelplans for SS Painted Lady by Vic Smeed trough an Ebay auction. Wondering if anyone has ever built it and if anyone got some info on the boat. Are the plans based on a real 1:1 coaster?
Googled a bit and found this: http://modelenginenews.org/people/smeed.html

Hi Atmobil, thanks for drawing attention to the Vic Smeed tribute.

SS Painted Lady, is a simple boat for you to build.  Like SS Maria, SS Unity etc.  If you like it build it!  There is nothing wrong with it not being to scale, it works as a model and you can put RC into her.  I think in this case she was an example of how to build using gummed paper over a simple balsa frame.

For 1 : 48 scale which SS Painted Lady is, she would probably be about 7 or 8 inches longer, otherwise the dimensions are more like a Clyde Puffer.

Good luck, hope you enjoy her.
regards Roy

I had no idea that Vic Smeed had passed away. That makes me very sad, he was without doubt my biggest influence in building models and something of a hero. R.I.P Vic.
