making an adjustable model boat/aeroplane stand
« on: July 23, 2011, 01:26:16 am »

Hello folks
I wonder if any member can help me out re making an adjustable stand to hold both model boats and planes while working on them, I was reading through Martins excellent articles that give great  -practical advice on a good variety of topics relating to model boats, Martin mentioned a plastic stand he got some time ago for model gliders which would also hold most types of model boats when you work on them, if like me you model on the kitchen table this would be a great help, Martin also gave me a few websites to try one I was very interested in was the Tower Hobbies site in America, who sell a stand called the "Robart Super Stand II which is just the type of thing I am looking for, and the price was a very reasonable £9.16, however the postage was wait for it £27.55!! three times the cost of the stand !!, I think I will pass on that perhaps some member knows of a U.K. supplier of Tower Hobbies stuff in the U.K. where I might buy this item, or has any suggestions of how I may make a similar item.
Thanks all the best,John.

http://www.inwoodmodels.com/product_info.php?products_id=4690

I Googled [robart superstand ii uk]

Price is GBP 29.99

But I noticed on the US sites, most suppliers are over $20, the $16 was only one supplier.
Some suppliers offer low price but pack their  profits up on the p&p

See if this is any good.

www.alshobbies,then sub category field equipment, then misc.field equipment. Sorry don't know how to provide the link for you,but that will get you there.

1st item on that page  is Als model stand.I looked at this item at Weston Park model airshow. It is a very light yet dense type of foam and would be ideal for standing a boat hull on.It comes flat packed and simply slots together. You could easily cut the foam should you need to,to accomodate your hull shape but don't think it would be neccesary.

From memory I would say it is approx 2'x1' x1' (600mm x 300mm x 300mm)

Could be ideal for your situation.

i made a boat stand (for my airboat) out of some 1" x 1/2" timber and joined them at the centre with a strap either end for the boat to sit on, for my sail boat i made a stand out of 21mm PVC pipe which double up as a work stand when turned over (also fit my perkassa on it to work on or transport)

I looked at the same one at Weston and nearly bought one to sit boats and planes on - wish I had now <:(

Hello

Thought you might try one of these bad boys !

In two sizes for kneeling or standing use, and completely prefabricated and you'll just need 2 part epoxy for the construction phase !

I have my 1:32 Perkasa on one right now and fitting carrying straps has proved to be a doddle too, webbing and locking buckles available on our fave auction website !
