Electric motor ID
« on: March 08, 2007, 02:12:13 am »

Hi All

I have just bought 3 Johnson motors of Ebay for AU$5 which I thought was a bargain. I am told from the seller that they are motors that were taken out of Tamiya R/C vehicles of some sort. They have the Johnson name and logo on them and the number 62200. Does anybody know what size these are turns etc............... (as I have no idea on such things) or if they are any good for an R/C Boat????

Hi Bigfella,

The standard class of motor as used in Tamiya kit radio control cars are 540 3 pole motors and should be 27 turns. Once upon a time they were using Mabuchi motors. Would be ok in a fast boat but too quick for a scale boat.

Have a look at this link as well, just in case http://www.modelboatmayhem.co.uk/Common/Electrics/How%20Fast.htm

Hope that helps

Hi Clive

Yes that helps heaps thanks. :) :)

I know about the rogue Johnson motors and almost bought a couple a while back. I have a Higgins PT Boat 1/32 scale (the one that the plans came free with MB magazine)and one of these would be ideal, I also have a Korean KNK PT 703 kit(that was what was on the box but it is just a fast boat) that I bought and made in 1981 that has never seen the water and one of these would be ideal as it was originaly meant for an OS 20 ic motor.

Thanks again Bigfella ;D ;D
