Perhaps the new invention called RADAR should be fitted to all ships?

Excellent coverage from the BBC News website....   "It came out of the blue, a tanker crew member told the BBC's Rowan Bridge. He and his colleagues were buying new clothes in the local Asda - they had no time to collect their belongings before being rushed onto lifeboats."

These articles are all written by A.I. now !   ( https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/cgq1pwjlqq2t )

I think it came from out of the fog...

Big hole in the side of the tanker anyway. See latest footage.

Great work by the lads/lasses on the Skegness lifeboat for their 11 hour call out to the incedent yesterday with the tanker and the contaner ship.
I might be reading between the lines on this incedent and being a little cynical, but a US flagged bulk tanker carrying aviation fuel for the US Airforce is T boned by a Portugese container ship, in a wide open sea when only 72 hours before the US had places sanctions on Europe, and the prime minister [or what ever he is called said that his country , Portugal, fiercely rebuked the actions of the USA.
That to me is certainly suspiscious.

Whilst not impossible, I don't think that is likely Neil.

If you have looked at the Marine Traffic course map of the Solong it is a straight line down the coast without any deviations. Hitting a target at that distance without any final course corrections would have been impossible.

Then, nobody in their right mind would have T Boned a ship full of aviation fuel with the risk that would have entailed to them.

You can see what happened from the various video footage. It is pretty obvious. The Solong breached a jet fuel tank on the Stena Immaculate. The fuel poured out of the tank, caught fire on the water and enveloped the Solong in a fireball which turned it into a charred wreck. The crew were very lucky to escape.

The Solong was on a regular run and had followed the same course on previous occasions.

Much more likely that the Solong was on autopilot and the the member of crew on watch was not keeping an adequate lookout or checking the radars. Apparently visibility was very bad with fog. These sort of situations occur with depressing regularity, fortunately getting away with near misses. Too many ships have inadequate or poorly trained crews and badly maintained electronic equipment.

Anyway, we will see.

Seems like the "Auto pilot" program(me) should have been updated to include the 'parking bay' it intersects. Says a lot for the aiming capabilities of the A/P system, plumb square on.
