HMS Bulldog
« on: July 29, 2011, 08:05:23 pm »

Hi all, i am wondering if anyone can help me out with a couple of things. I have just bought a HMS Bulldog from models by design but will not get it for about 3 weeks. The thing is i am trying to purchase a few items ready to go in it when i collect it. The questions are as follows

1....What length prop shafts
2....What diameter props
3....What size rudders

Also i am going to be using 2 x 545 motors but do these need to go through a gearbox.

Any help would be great.

This is my 1st posting and there are a lot of very interesting articles on the forum and i am sure it will be of great help in the future.

FYI:

H.M.S. BULLDOG

Scale: 48th scale
Hull: 48 inch
Beam: 9.75 inch
Draft:

HMS Bulldog and her sister ships HMS.Beagle, HMS.FOX and HMS. FAWN are the four vessels of this class, built by Brooke Marine Ltd in 1968 for the Hydrographers of the Navy for coastal survey work anywhere in the world.

Powered by 4 x Lister Blackstone ER58M 8cylinder 4 stroke diesel engines coupled to twin shafts they had a top speed of 15knots. Passive tank stabilisers were fitted to aid in their work.

This is s very different Naval Subject, with its derricks, winches & survey boats it gives the model a very different appearance from other RN. ships, her white hull and buff funnel make for a very attractive model on the water.

For running gear suggest you try george sitek at http://www.gsitek-props.co.uk/

If you have the plans george will do the shafts and props for you based on the size you tell him from the plans.  He would make you a full runnig set of a frames and props and rudders and it is quality stuff well worth the price and the service is excellent from my perspective.

Has this conversion actually taken place? The last I heard, more than two years ago, was that there had been a serious fire while the work was being done at Nelson, New Zealand.
