RAGGED CHINE HULL
« on: July 28, 2011, 11:57:24 pm »

does anyone know what a Ragged chine hull looks like..........

Maclachlan, designer of the ARUN class lifeboat originally designed the arun with a ragged chine hull, which he said, at the time would do 25 knots........

the RNLI poo pooed this and redesigned the hull to what it became, giving initial speeds of 18 knots, but by the time of their sell off, down to 14 - 16 knots.

the only pic i've found of what i think is a ragged chine is enclosed .......was this the same.anyone know.

cheers,
neil.

They certainly look the same...and the top pic is of the 18' McLauchlan water jet drive surf lifeboat...so must be Ragged Chine.........

I'd love to have seen the original McLauchlan designs therefor for the Arun class lifeboat with this type of hull...certainly would have been interesting.

Suppose all those drawings have long gone to the shredder
