Multiple boats on 1 transmitter?
« on: July 30, 2011, 10:55:07 am »

Just wondering, I know you can have a transmitter and multiple receivers in different boats, but is it possible to run 2 of the boats off the same transmitter at the same time?

Am thinking a 4 channel transmitter using 1 stick for each boat.

19 of my boats run off one single transmitter, an Esky 2.4ghz, my 7 yachts all run off a single Planet 5 transmitter, all have their own receivers. I doubt very much you could run 2 boats at the same time off one transmitter, but never having risked it, I don't know.....

It can be done with Xtal sets but not with 2.4gHz sets. 2.4gHz locks on to one frequency and locks out all others.

You could manage it in one body if you had a full frontal lobotomy....  %% Just remember that the left brain hemisphere operates the right side of your body, and vice versa...

If you bind two receivers to the same transmitter they should both accept and action the same signals. Then it's just a matter of plugging servos into channels 1 and 2 on the first receiver, and 3 and 4 on the second. Of course, if you want to do ever-so-precise formation work, you could plug them into the same channels, and hope that ALL other influences are PRECISELY identical..... :D :D

That's really a bad statement to make - as it's patently incorrect :police:

2.4 has upto 80 frequencies available, and depending on the system, uses either ;

all of them - and moves between them all - Foobar, Jeti, MPX, the new JR system, and some others
half of them - and moves between them all - Spektrum DSMX
2 of them - and hops between the 2 'channels' - JR DSM2 and Spektrum DSM2
or 1 of them - the one you're thinking of, which just sticks to that 1 channel - early XPS and some of the cheap 'toy' sets.

The 'single channel' sets are restricted to 10mW ERP output, whereas the others are allowed 100mW ERP output

To answer the OP, YES it can be done, quite easily, as wibplus says - by binding both Rx at the same time and using the relevant Rx connectors to match the two 'models' set up on the Tx :-))

I Have done it
To make it work is not hard and I did it on 2.4ghz.
The big problem is trying to keep control of both boats. If they are running parrell in the samme direction and the same speed running the same course \ partten then it is not to hard have one coming at you and the other going away or at 90 deg it comes very intense on the brain put speed in to the equation then all hell breaks lose and you are all ways having to corect course and speed

No problem on 2.4

Boat 1 uses the left hand stick, boat 2 uses the right hand stick  - ie 2 by 2 channel systems on a 4 channel transmitter.

You need to be good though to make the correct inputs to each stick when the boats are moving independently.

Thanks for the replies, I've currently got the giant cod 'tight a$$' transmitter and receiver, would you think it would work ok with that or do I need to get a better set.

Controlling 2 shouldn't be too hard, won't be trying to do 2 different things at once in different parts of the lake. Want to shadow my 1/72 flower class corvette with a 1/72 u-boat so they'd both be doing the same circuit, so hopefully wouldn't be too challenging (he says as he rams his own corvette sinking both models! Lol)

"the giant cod 'tight a$$' transmitter and receiver" works perfectly with multiple receivers.

I tried this today with two Springers.  There is a report under that title in the Springer section.

Great fun as  Coz918  says. It's rather like rubbing your Tummy and patting your Head at the same time.   :} :}  beware of driving towards each other.   {-)

Just one comment about the Planet T5 regarding channels.  One stick controls channels 1 & 3  and the other stick controls channels 2 & 4.

Bind 2 Rxs to one Tx, then use left hand stick for one boat, R.hand for another?

i use the corona 2,4Ghz DIY sets.... one (1) transmiter and two (2) receivers in diverent boats.... No problem what so ever...

same on the 40Mhz... 1 Transmiter and god knows how many receivers all on the same channel...

i used to sail my Norderney and Mowe in this way, left stick main Ship and the right stick the ships boat..

Hello, This topic has been on before, One of our members did this years ago with two flower class corvettes. It was fun when they were coming at you,  Nemesis

We used to have a chap at Broomfield called Dennis Reubens who operated two models at once  with his Fleet R/C.
