Sub chase on movie
« on: August 04, 2011, 11:52:27 pm »

Hello Mayhemers , I am an old Geezer who has done a lot of scratch and kit building for fifty years ( it all started with a lolly stick in a puddle ) and I am a member of the Dover MBA club that sail out of Kearsney Abbey Public Park in Dover . Our lake ( 40x80 metres) is fed by the spring waters from the Alkham valley that form the River Dour that coarses through Dover to the sea down at that famous Harbour .
Because our lakes spring water is crystal clear it is a Submariners camera candy paradise . I got to thinking  (as you do ) if I built a submersible camera and tow it with my trawler I will be able to film the clubs subs in opperation .
So , sub camera was built and our clubs Secretary's ( Alan ) Vor spun doitch technique unterboat machine was selected as the performer .
The subcamera was tethered to the trawler "Kipper Katcher" and departed from the bank at a scale 18 knots and the German unterwaterfing chased after it . Got some great footage that was edited by another of our members ( Graham ) and made into a short film put on the tube !
If you are interested to see it put   retsub 12   in your search engine and you will get Grahams  tube site ,  and look for  "Sub chase "  and clik on it for an unusual angle on our hobby !
Hopefully all you Sub Mariners will rush to Dover to join our club or visit our reggata's ! Next one 14 August 2011 !
Graham also has some other short films of model boating and other projects , he's great ! Glad he's one of our members !
Thats it then , don't get your feet wet , put plenty of sun block on ,keep your head covered ,watch were your steering and happy boating !

Some excellent footage there Sundaysailor, outstanding camera work. O0 O0 O0

For info of anyone wanting to view this footage - search using retsub12 - don't put a space in (retsub 12) otherwise you probably won't find it.

Well worth a viewing !

Regards,

Ray.

Hello Mayhemers , just thought I would like to confirm that the Camerasub will be candidly cruising the depths of Kearsney lake on the 14/8/2011 next week rain or shine , water is not a problem ! But lets hope its a sunny day anyway . Going to buy another 4GB SD so as to shoot at least 40 min of HD movie and see what Graham ( our Editor )  makes of it . Its easy to point a camera and shoot but the proof is in the editing . On this next shoot I will try HD to see if the outcome is clearer than "Sub chase "  . Am also hoping to get some action of Dave's dredger "Admiral Day " grab bucket plunging the mud of the lake bottom . That model is awsome ! So if your near to Dover come on over !
Happy sailing to all .

PS. We are looking for a Director .  ;)
