oh yeah that monoperm is like 42 quid new and people will still pay u good money for it. secondly what frequency radio you on? if you are 27 or 40 you will need to solder suppression caps on the new motor. if your 2.4ghz you wont need to bother. im afraid i cant help you too much with that bit instead of faffing about with suppression caps mi bought a 2.4ghz rc

I'm on 27... If i go 2.4 do i just need a new transmitter and receiver?

Are there any other benefits of 2.4 over 27 or 40???

27 and 40 is the old school way. ive just finished my first build and i got a 27 mhz transmitter. The amount of pis5ing about i had to do with it trying to over come interference and such i just bought a brand new FS GT2 transmitter and receiver. its cheap, its chinese, it works!!

I Bought this one from this guy. its a little bit more expensive than getting them directly from china BUT it came the next day!! the china ones take weeks and if its faulty i dont have to airmail it to hong kong to get my money back!!

despite its simplicity it brilliant.

2.4 ghz means you dont need crystals, you dont need suppression, you dont lose signal. it doesnt interfere and have a fit when you fart near it.

best money i spent so far!!

and is it just a straight swap???

i dont know if that transmitters any good i have not read or watch any reviews on it. and yes its a straight swap old receiver out new recever in. the antenna is only 5 inches long and just needs positioning high up in the boat. i tested my signal by putting the my boat near the front door. then went out in the back garden to see how well it went threw walls with the telly lights on etc. my lad told relayed back to me and it worked perfectly i shouldve gone this route in the first place. last time i used 27mhz with no suppression caps my boat went out 20 ft stopped and i had to go skinny dippin to get it back. And jebus that water was cold much to the amusment of my missus!! >>:-(

1 of the features on that transmitter you showed me is that it can store more than 1 boat on it. 1ce you have the transmitter if you buld another boat you just need a receiver. and you then bind it and store the settings on the transmitter. The one i bought can also be used for more than 1 boat but it wont store settings. the price reflects this but each receiver is as low as 6 quid!!!

as far as the coupling is concerned the motor spindle is 3.2mm i dont know what your propshaft will be it varies. I bought this. it seems to be the one EVERYONE uses (must be good then).
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=120734286263&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT

The brass inserts in the end can be changed for different diameters and fitting's of shaft. threaded or grub screwed. Im not sure about a graupner coupling i dont know enough about them i looked at images of one but youl have to work out the prop shaft diameter and get the right coupling to match it to the motor :-))

The prop shaft I have narrows at the coupling end to 3mm. I can make up a Graupner 3.2 to 3 but its gonna cost over £11 + postage
I think I'd rather uprate the prop shaft then use the Huco couplings.

What d'you think?

On the coupling I have at the mo, it says 3 on the prop side and 2.3 at the motor side. I think the prop shaft
Must be about 5mm thick, but like I say it narrows to what I assume is 3mm.
Both shaft are smooth and held on with grub screws.

on the motor side you could drill it out to 3.2

if you change the propshaft youl have to change the propeller. and thats just opening a can worms because then the amp draw rate changes. which could mean higher load on motor and a new esc is needed.

here is a 3.2mm drill bit

what you doing then you getting the coupling or are u drilling the original? i suppose if you buy the coupling and all fails then you can still put the old motor back in. what are you doing about suppression caps are you buying them and keeping the 27mhz or are u getting the 2.4ghz rc?

Unless you (or a mate)has access to a lathe, don't try to drill the coupling out. The basic sizes of Huco couplings have the red or black centre lump as standard and the Brass end bits are selected for bore of shaft and motor and then pushed into the ends. One of the better toy boat shops should have the manufacturers "Kit" to supply exactly to your needs.

well if you dont get 2.4ghz use the suppression capacitors otherwise youl have problems. i dont know a lot about them tbh i got an idea of how to fit them and the type needed but no personal experience with them. when you install the motor make sure everything is running smoothly and the alignment is good. the UJ will alow sum flex in the angle but not in the alignment. bad alignment put unecessary stress on the bearing walls. post updates on how ur doing  :-)) maybe sum pics if you can  :}
