How much load is there on a rudder servo.. I have lots 8grm servos left over from small rc aircraft
I would like to use them on small boats.

Don't know the answer in numbers, but I use a small servo to control the ruder on my Deans Fireboat which has a brushless set up and moves pretty fast. The servo kicks the rudder round almost too fast. I'm considering adding a Servomorph to slow it down.

Barrie, I guess most people would use a standard servo, regardless, as weight is not much of a issue in boats as it is in aircraft...

As I said, I have lots of servos left over from small rc aircraft... I used to buy them 5-10 at a time from Hobby King..

If the model is well balanced and the "pivoting point" is on or near the centre of balance then there'll be very little strain/pressure on the rudder. Similarly, if the pivoting point of the hull is towards the after end then again the pressure on the rudder is slight...but steering will be "twitchy". But if the pivoting point is well forward (in the hull) steering will be very tough on the rudder servo. BY.

Hi Dekan,

I'm using such a 'midget 'in my 60 cm Dickie tugboat, the Kort rudder is well balanced, as mentioned earlier and the small servo works flawlessly.

The first pictures show a standard servo, in post 12, my tiny servo is shown in the same hull.

Regards, Jan.

most standard size servos pull about 3Kg, so i would say any servo that can pull about 3Kg would do the trick, no matter what size the servo is....
