clueless and in need of help
« on: September 11, 2011, 09:45:01 pm »

Hi, i was recently given a large model boat by my granddad, it had two petrol motors in it but no electrics. the only thing is i don't really have a clue what to do with it, none of the pipework is connected but i am told that both motors were rebuilt a couple of years ago.

thanks in advance for any help you can give.

I am on my phone at the moment but will now try and get some pics on here.

what a cracking setup, if you have the use of waters that allow ic`s i would leave those engines in it, those front pulley wheels may show the motors were originally connected together via a toothed belt

Location now updated.
I'm pretty sure the engines were connected. There is an electric starter in their as well, not sure if you could use them to start the engines with a belt between them and connected to the starter?

I know there is a club that meets at eaton park in norwich so i may go and ask some of them guys, would be lovely to see it running on the water but I just don't have time or know how to sort it out.

the pulley at the back will be for an electric starter belt to attach to then would come off when started you couldn't really link the two motors with them as eny regularity in revs between the motors would course problems don't think that starter motor is up to the job would need a fer bit of converting to work on the engines with a belt then you would need a clutch to disengage the motor once the engine starts

i would start by getting the engines running the sort out radio gear to link the 2 throttles and the steering eny more up close picks of the rudder shaft and engine set up would help  :-))
