Rubber Powered Boats

Hi,

I'm not sure where to put this, so perhaps Martin can find it a home...?

Just wondered if anyone had done anything with rubber power in recent years? I know it was quite a big thing at one point...

I was thinking of a small launch or submarine using a 10:1 gear drive I got out of an old PC. I come from a free flight rubber background so I have the stuff around...

Any ideas, experiences, models to share?

Cheers

If you look at section 6 Archives on the Bowmancircle and scroll to the bottom, details of the original rubber powered launches can be found.

http://www.bowmancircle.co.uk/

In the July 2007 edition of Model Boats magazine, Ashley Needham had an item featured on building this type of model.

Hope this is of value,
Tony.

Cheers Tony, I'd seen the Bowman Aeroboats before, but I'm not sure how the mechanism works. They look cool though!

Not too many years ago there was a demonstration of rubber powered boats at the Leamington Model Boat Show.

I saw that demo Barry... Huge laugh when one of the guys wound up his 'motor' the wrong way and shot off backwards!! {-)
.... impressively enough it went just as well backward as forwards!

Somewhere I have some pictures and a piece of video footage of some of Harry Fox's rubber powered submarines, I'll try and find them and post them up here for you.
