Newbie with GRP Perkasa 37"
« on: September 25, 2011, 09:30:34 pm »

Hello to all

I'm very new to the rc side of this hobby. I've been building models for a few years but only now getting into making them move! I hope you can help!

I’m bulidng a single prop 37” GRP hull plywood deck kd perkasa from precedent. Please could anyone advise me on which brushed motor, esc, battery and prop combo i need. From trawling the forum, I’m thinking an 800 motor, 40 amp esc and twin 3800 ni cad batteries with a 40mm proip but that’s a bit of  a guess. I'd like it to plane a bit but I'm not looking to burn around, just a reasonable run time so the kids can have a good go as well!

Thanks in anticipation for all your help

I would dare say youve nailed it on the head with those choices of hardware. Possibly change the ni cd to nimh though as they dont have the memory affect.

I agree with Mike but would say if you are going to change to nimh batteries to get the highest mAh ones you can get to increase running time.

For batteries Component Shop, excellent service , cheap prices and cheap p&p.

Hi
I had the Perkasa 46 inch (if i remember correctly) with a marlin motor.  That seem to work pretty well.  Its a nice boat and I regretted getting rid of it.

One of Actions 900 motors would do, along with his esc, fuse board etc.John.

The MFA 800 motor will be too slow for her, they only rev at about 4500-5000 rpm.
The 850 would be a better choice at 9000-10000 but at a higher power consumption.
The MiNim batteries should let her get on the plane due to their weight.
You could also go for something like a Graupner 600BB Turbo on 12 ish volts at quite an increase in rpm so a smaller prop would be needed.

 :-)) :-)) :-))

Thanks for all your help - I've gone for a 900bb motor, 50 amp esc and twin 3800 nimh batteries with a 30mm prop - so we'll see but i may need a larger prop. Its all the fun of experiments!
