Second time into modeling after 30 + years
« on: October 10, 2011, 09:36:10 pm »

Back to enjoy modeling again after about thirty plus years, bought a Moonraker fibre glass hull but never got round to finishing it,cut the windows out and started to brass trim round to fit perspex but never finished so have now finished the trimming of them. I fitted the propshaft and intended to use a HP 40 ic engine but am now undecided wether to change to electric power instead as I am not sure if the IC is suitable for a 46in boat as it will be quite heavy by the time it is finished I would apprecate your thoughts as I am so far out of touch with what is on the market as things have changed and I am a complete novice in todays modeling. I went to Eaton park Norwich boating lake a couple of weeks ago and was very impressed with the fantastic models on the water will be joining the club very soon. I have a yacht i compleated and a wave princess wooden hull with ic power that I built first time around I am now repainting it to tidy it up as it had a few mishaps and will take it to give it a run out again soon,

                    All for now Pete

Hi Pete

Welcome aboard.

I would go electric if I was you as a lot of places do not allow i/c any more.

Get in touch with Dave at ACTion he will advise you as to what you need, as he designed a lot of these models in a past life.

When I took Dirty Harry down to Fleetwood Lake for her maiden, there was a guy running an ic power boat. On the other side of the lake was a woman bellowing at the top of her voice at him and the noise from the engine.

It hadnt occurred to her that the Fleetwood Model Yatch and Powerboat Club are based there nor that her constant 'shut it up!' was bliddy annoying  ;D

But yes, I'd recommend leccie as its cleaner, quieter and with lipos & brushless motors, has made great progress in the last couple of years.
