Model Boat Bits.

I have just bought a motor, mounting and coupling from one of our kit manufacturers and had a couple of slight problems with it - mounting screw missing, etc., and they passed the problem to Model Boat Bits -

- and I then found that it was their CEM 900T motor.  It looks like an excellent motor and I bought it as a result of a recent article in 'Model Boats' magazine.  I wanted the motor for a model I was already building but it was not one of that particular manufacturer's kits.  It turns out that I could have bought the items at a cheaper total cost from Model Boat Bits but did not know at the time that this was one of their motors.  However, I cannot praise too highly my subsequent treatment by Steve of Model Boat Bits and the problems were not of their making.  Have a look at his excellent website.  I have no connection with Model Boat Bits except as a very satisfied customer. :-))

Thanks, John.  Problem was I did not know what motor to go for until I saw what was fitted to the boat in the kit review in 'Model Boats' and, unfortunately, the reviewer did not give the motor a particular mention (which would have been helpful).  I was going on the size of the review kit and the size of boat I was building and that decided me on that particular motor.  Obviously, the name of the kit manufacturer and vessel were shown in the review but not the motor.  I wonder why reviewers don't give us more information in their articles!

Your motor looks the same as the one that Action sell.Which is the same as the Graupner one which surprize surprize is a lot more.Although your motor can take more than 12v not all Esc s are rated over 12v.Please take care. John

Thanks again, John.  It is for use in a Tyne Models 'Crosby' so I will be using a 12v SLA battery and I will get the appropriate ESC from Model Boat Bits.

Derek.If you intend to buy Mtronic its worth looking at there Website as they often have new tested esc s at a discount price.Please beware of a certain seller on E Bay who appears to be selling off a lot of Mtronics esc s. what he doesnt mention is that they are an obsolete design and need water cooling to acheive max rating.They also program in reverse .Guess who brought two? John.

I was beaten twice on these offerings
I have since bought two tested ones from the Mtrontcs website
Prices have risen a couple of quid but they are still good value and free postage

I second what you say about Steve and his website.

He was very helpful to me even making up a replica rudder out of brass for my Revell Cornflower and supplying a suitable prop....all for a very fair price. Highly recommended.

i paid the equivalent of £16.25 for a universal joint and inserts at my local model shop. he has the same thing for £5.70. its a pity i didnt find out about him 12 months ago when i started my build. :o

I am ordering the customized rudders for my Aquarama from Model Boat Bits right now (don't have them yet) and so far I am very please with fast response from Steve and also with his prices.

The first time I met Steve from Model Boat Bits was about 3 years ago at a show at Yeadon Town Hall organised by the Leeds and Bradford club. At that time he did not have a large selection of boat bits.  Since then his stock levels have got much larger and I am pleased to say he has attended our major events ever since. I must agree the service offered by Steve is first class. My last order was for a 60 mm prop and shaft and the turn round time from my call to the goods been delived was 3 days.   Not bad service I think.
