Mtronics viper marine ESC's
« on: September 24, 2011, 04:16:03 pm »

I have two 25amp viper marines's. Both do the same thing .. turn them on and a red light appears .. the servos work so I'm assuming the ESC hasn't blown ?

Niether of the buttons seem to do anything as far as the intructions go in setting up the throttle. Two faulty ESC's .. ?  I wired them up to different systems  one a set up that was working so I know it isn't the battery motor or rx/tx.  Am getting fed up trying to set them up and get motors I know work  to run. I have tried wagging the throttles all kinds of things to no avail ...

I don't think I'll be buying any more mtronics stuff ...

A solid red light on Mtroniks speed controls usually indicates 'no signal' from either the transmitter or the receiver. Although you say you have tested the channels independently.
I have made the following 'cock ups' in the past.
Plugged the speed control into the battery input socket on the reciever, no signal output on this channel=red light.
Plugged the speed control into the ch7 socket on a Futaba radio, then spent 20 minutes trying everything until I realised I was using a 6 channel transmitter=no seventh channel signal which=red light.
Plugged the speed control in the wrong way round into the receiver, didn't blow it up but=red light.
Try pugging a servo into channel 1, test it, if it works, plug the speed control into channel 1, checking polarity as you go, if that doesn't work you may have a problem.
Oh yes, check both transmitter and receiver are on the same frequency, sounds stupid, but trust me, it happens to us all.

done that, went the boating lake with my 40mhz tx and the boat has a 2.4 rx in it, three days later i was off carp fishing, took the bait boat, that one has the 40mhz rx in it, three times i checked i had the correct tx with me, got the lake, put boat in water, turned on the radio, turned on the boat -------- NOWT ----- needless to say i still managed to take the wrong radio  :embarrassed: :embarrassed:

Why not phone Mtronics? Surely they are the best people to speak to. Also should your Esc s prove faulty then they do offer a fairly priced repair service. As already said it does sound like a Radio problem.John.

The  reason I've not phoned mtronics is I only just got them. Both were delivered this morning ...And by the time I had finished mucking about with them I was too late to phone mtronics ...

One of the  rx's is a 6 chanel the other a two chanel in a tug boat ... The ESC's don't even flash on set up like the 15 does ... They both go straight to red steady LED lit .. Pressing the set up button does nothing .... So I'm asuming the sets are faulty ?

I to have recently purchased 2 and had similar problems also where on start up throttle seemed very odd.. However I had another go today with a fuller set of batterys and had no problem with setting them up.. So in my case it was just the way I was doing the set up.

My solution

I plugged everything in but not the motor.

Turned on the Tx
turned on the rx via the mtronics switch , when lights came on pressed full throttle head, then reverse, after that seemes to work fine..

I had been in contact with Mtronics via email who were very quick in reply with advice.

Good luck.
