Hi All
Can any one remember which month there was an article  in model boats magazine  on building a model steam turbine engine (I’m sure it was a few years ago)  someone down at our pond might want to build one and  just needs a bit of guidance .( Just trying to help a fellow model boater)
Cheers

Hi Spud
Engineering In Miniature did an article a couple of months ago about a flash steam turbine ( in a tethered hydroplane), it did have a few drawings with it. Your friend will need to decide which type of turbine to make (there are 2 main sorts excluding the Tesla turbine) and should be aware they are very steam hungry. However I have seen a couple of very successful ones in the past few years.

Spud,
You don't say what type of model your mate wishes to build.

The turbine article that Phil mentions is for a round the pole flash steam racing boat, which to make you will need machining facilities.
There was an article published in 2002 in Model Boats on a model of Turbinia by a modeler from the N.E. which was turbine driven.
The turbine and boiler were all  made using hand tools and no machinery was required .
If this is what you were after P.M. and I can mail you a copy of the article.
George.

Hi, Spud

I have a couple of old articles from the comics about the build of steam turbines, and will dig them out

Also I was following a turbine build on homemodelmachinist by John (Bogstandard) which came about because of some correspondence on Mayhem.  My friend capricorn has a 8 foot destroyer hull and wanted turbine power!

I will find the references when I get a minute and post them here

Hi All
He likes to build the engine 1st and will test the performance and then build a model which will suit it.
I wouldn't like to say what model he would build apart from nothing speed related,
any info will be helpfull thanks Andrew ( no rush)
