open letter to all mayhemers
« on: October 22, 2011, 09:58:56 am »

it is with sadness that I have decided to leave the mayhem forum, and would like to thank Martin and his team for providing me with fun and enjoyment over the last few years. I have made some good friends along the way, and shared some great stories and info.

For those that may not have seen all the fuss going on in the sales section, I advertised my sons dicky tug, as a genuine sale, it would appear that the same tug is advertised by a seller for less money, reduced from £100 to £40 brand new(we paid £110 from steve webbs). I would have thought that the selling price of £50, then £45 was my business, and any potential buyers decided for themselves if it was worth it, however dick d came after me, and ruined the  sale, and a few others jumped on the band wagon.

After twice having his posts removed, he then continued within another part of the forum. I am really upset by this witch hunt, and my son is, no father wants to see his child upset, so thanks for that dick d

Unfortunately he has demonstrated this growing attitude of snipes and arguing which is spoiling this wonderful forum, and  the fact that a member can continue to come after others, like in a school playground. Having been openly accused of "rolling people over" I have removed the sales post, and will now withdraw from mayhem. One of the "bandwagon bunch" has clearly forgotton when I sent him a transmitter, and didn't want payment till he knew he was happy with it, he obviously does have a bad memory, as I had to chase the payment, and then he paid me short and I had to chase that,

ok dick, you win, I really cant be bothered,  :-)),

Don't be daft, If you want to sell  an Item at what ever price its up to you, be it £45 or £1000  its your item..You paid 100+ for it so not unreasonbale to ry to get some money back, if it sells it sells, I agree that posts not relavant to that Item should not be posted on your sale thread..  Just ignore those who persist in stirring things up..

But to leave the forum because of that is just daft. But again your choice..

Hullo  Red181 ......

It is sad to read when a member advises their need to resign their membership to this  %% Mayhem site  {:-{

I did the same [resign] ...a number of years ago when I percieved that I had an issue  >>:-(  <*< with a minority

After 48 hours I realised I was not a fault....but others......with all WEB sites you will find examples of members who offend to the point of being obnoxious

Let these detractors swim in their own **** >>:-( <*<

Do yourself a favour.........take 24 hours out .....reread all of your 574 posts & the responses......... :-))

Your call.........Derek

Not taking sides on this but....a lot of forums have a 'No interfering with Sales threads or else'.....policy, at risk of a short ban. This seems to work on forums that have a large sales selection  :-)

I too would implore you to think again about leaving, you gave me a lot of help with those darned Jet Boats..... :((

Red181, I'll be the first to hold my hands up to being part of those who replied to your sales post, and I'll also publicly apologise to you if I upset you by doing so.

There's no need for you to leave the forum due to what happened over your 'for sale' post, you are a valuable member of the forum, I read your posts with interest, as I'm pretty sure a lot of the guys do.

Please accept my apologies...

I watched this unfold and felt Red181 was treated very unfairly by a few people interfering in what was not their business. I checked the item on the internet and several places showed it as no longer available, I also found the supplier who had slashed the price but it was not immediately obvious through a Google search. I felt it was a genuine sale and in the end a deal is only ever done when both parties are happy with the price - nobody is being forced to buy anything.

Like all forums there are thousands of members but a relatively small percentage contribute regularly and sometimes an even smaller percentage get a bit carried away. Mediators apart, nobody has any superiority over anybody else and all should remember this, being able to 'hide behind' the frontage of a forum is no excuse for being antisocial and those who seek to spoil things must not prevail or it's finished.

Good onya U-33 for your apology, that kind of action is where strength and community lays.

Red 181 you have every right to be a part of this forum so stick with it, let the minority remain exactly that – a very small minority.

I also apologise Red
My post was not malicious in intent, simply informing members that the boat was available at a low price.
I would hate to think that a post of mine was instrumental in someone deciding to leave this fine forum.
Once again I apologise unreservedly to you and your Son

Red181
I am sorry you should take my actions as a personal attack, this was not my intention.

I was trying to point out that this particular boat was still available in the shops and not "no longer available" as you stated in your ad.

I would like to point out also, that you were breaking the forums rules by having an ad on here and on E'bay at the same time.

I would like to point out to the rest of the forum that the transmitter you mention was nothing to do with me.

I would like you to reconsider your decision to leave, as having done it myself I can say you will regret it.

As I have said this was not meant as a personal attack and I apologize if you took it that way.

Bullies exist in all walks of life, usually its a deep rooted problem caused by severe inadequacies in other parts of their daily life. Some seem to find the one area they have reasonable knowedge in & set themselves up as a demigod ( in their own minds anyway), feeling free to rip into anything they perceive to have the slightest floor, without any apparent thought going into the consequences of their actions.

It is always interesting to read the threads on various forums that suffer from these 'helpful' posts, it is all to clear who are the intelligent members & who are the bullies. Fortunately, most members are equipped with the intelligence to rise above it, once they take a little time out & see these postings for what they really are, they calm down & continue on the forums, comforted by the realisation they are a better person than the bullies.

Every so often, one of the bullies will get taken to task by most of the members, resulting in their toys getting thrown out of the pram & them leaving the forum, only for them to skulk back a few months later, once they realise they are not getting enough attention.

So Red181, please take a few days out to calm down a little & then consider if you want to leave, or continue.

From the thread although its deleted now I cant recall any personal attacks just people pointing out factual points.  I cant recall there was anything said that could be interpreted as being written to cause offence.  Given the number of people using this forum there will always be someone who posts something that others dont agree with but I think you just have to ignore what is said and get on with it, not leave the forum.  I was called ignorant, stupid, pathetic and so forth purely because I said I didnt see why members had to be bulied into having their locations listed  and asked why it was necessary.  And some of that was by more than one moderator who are the voices of reason on here!  So just take a deep breath and move on but not move on as in leave the forum.

Red,

I understand how you feel, (but that's all I'm prepared to say about DickyD, as I received a ban after 'disagreeing' with him previously), and would ask you to reconsider your decision to leave.

I do hope that those who have seen fit to appologise to Red, have also done it via email or PM to him via martin, as as he has said he has left the site, he will not have chance to see the apologies unless they are mailed to him direct...........
It's ok apologising once someone has left the building.....it's another making sure that they read them. >>:-( >>:-(

Hi Red181

I think you should stay.

Big wave comes in and breaks on the beach churning all the shingle.
Big wave goes out and the shingle remains.

That's simply how I view the daily conflicts we all meet - otherwise I'd go absolutely mad. Took me a long time to come around to that way of thinking.

Or just take a movie cue from Rick  'I'm no good at being noble, but it doesn't take much to see that the problems of three little people don't amount to a hill of beans in this crazy world.'

Regards Norseman

Fools rush in where angels fear to tread, but having said that what does it achieve to post,
" I am tacking my bat and ball and going home" if we can't look at what has occurred so we can evaluate the perceived unacceptable behavior.
After all there are two sides to any story.
From memory, sales items for some reason cause angst.
Public forums will always expose us to "attack" but you need to keep them in perspective and not be thin skinned life is too short and why drag your Son into it.
I don't see the relevance to the problem if there is one.
Like one commentary says if you have already left the site what's the point of the parting shot or any apologies, you won't get them.

You know something, whilst i hope you don't go, this site is increasingly full of ***** and I don't blame you. I express an opinion in the 'chit-chat' section and get told I'm incorrect numerous times over.

Do what you feel best.

i know that several times when i have posted what the experts have thought not worthy of a civil reply i have been tempted to snap back at them but usually restrain myself. ignore their comments is the best reply although it can sometimes take a lot of effort not to say something.  given the number of members on the  site and the small amount of 'stirrers' its not really that bad. afraid i would have to say toughen up red and please come back.

Hi Red, I have been a forum member for a short while. I have read your posts with interest, you always seem to want to help other members. I think you should ( my opinion) take a deep breath, & stay on the forum. A question this raises for me, a new member is there politics at play here ?, I hope not as it can have an adverse effect on the forum. If we are unable to help a member don't try to do him/her any harm. This is a great forum, I have had much help here, PLEASE keep it that way. Mick B.
