Metal hand railings with brass stanchions and brass detailing on the superstructure nothing different about it really the railings were on there when i bought it from Bob ive not renewed them.

Rx arial runs on the outside of my mast Richard, used the 6volt battery with the Rx and ESC with the severn. Had my partner keep an eye on the electrics as i walked around the lake didnt have any glitches, the boat was on the bench until i changed to my 7.2v to run it round the lake all was normal.

could it be the ESC cant run on 6volts and needs 7.2v or above???

That is a possibility especially as the actual voltage delivered by the battery is likely to be a bit under 6v on load. Like all these things, if the obvious things don't work it is a methodical process of elimination. Bl***y frustrating though!

Just to make matters worse. The BEC was disconnected and an known good receiver battery used.
Mind you it has done some good, after all these years modelling Radio Controlled Boats I was confident that I could sort it out in a few mins.
What goes before a fall!!!
Thanks for all you help lads, that is what this forum is all about.
I have a volt/ammeter wired to tamia plugs so can check the voltage under load, was still showing 6 volts.
It happens without motors running, with radio switched on but not operating anything, and servo and speed controller centralised with sliders.
This is now driving me MAD!!

 :) ;) :D ;D >:( :( :o 8) ??? ::) :P :-[ :-X :-\ :-*

Bob,
You may have already tried it, but you might try moving the receiver to the bow and the ESC on top of the battery, or further aft.  That would separate the wiring a bit more.  An ESC is a sort of oscillator, if you stretch your imagination far enough.  That oscillating signal to the motors (power pulses) also can cause interference.  You do have to have one set of ESC's wires going to the receiver but keeping the rest of them away certainly doesn't hurt.
There's probably nothing wrong with the motor suppressors, but larger ones might help and certainly won't hurt.  After that, there's always the option of beating the @#$ thing to death and starting over!  Doesn't always 'cure' anything, but it's certainly satisfying.  ...  I just love all this electronics @#$%.

Doc,
The real annoying thing is that the set is installed in a far smaller model with the same set up and is working fine.
I just hope Jay keeps it there then!!!

I take it that the only difference is the motors then ?

Before i take all the hand railings off the Schutze could we try the revell motors back in her again Bob???

Although there not as fast this could be the only problem left which we havent tried.

I will check if I have another pair of motors that will work, I should have, you have seen how many motors I have.

Bob I know I'm pretty vague on this R/C gubbins, but it strikes me that there are two things that haven't been changed.
The motors and the suppressors.
Jay you leave that handrail alone.

Right spent most of the afternoon taking the motors out of the Schutze and put them in my speed boat hull just to see if they would work.
Pretty sure its either the motors or they just need bigger suppressors, run the motors and i got some interferance again.

Still not convinced its the motors though until ive changed them .

Did you say if you had a metal rod to the rudder from the servo  ?

Plastic tillers with a brass rod connecting all and the servo to rudders.

I have a similar problem on my LadyT..it only glitches when the speaker is attached for the steam whistle sound and then not all the time..Disconnect the speaker and no interferance. Any ideas out there as this is not covered in this thread but could also be the reason Bob and Jay had their problem!!

This could be the power taken by the sound unit/amp under load feeding an interfering signal back into the power supply.
Glitching can be caused either by airbourne interference, or by small sudden changes of supply voltage causing the various controlled bits (servo, ESC, whatever else) reacting accordingly.  All these bits n pieces work by comparing a voltage derived from the joystick position and comparing it with a voltage derived as a proportion of the supply voltage.  If that varies, unexpected results happen.

The radio amateur response to this little issue would be:

Ferrite rings.

One or more as close to the powered end of the speaker lead should do the trick.

Barry, are the speaker leads twisted together?   This can sometimes get rid of interference.   Pete M

Rob,

What are ferrite rings and where do I buy some?

Pete,

I will give that a try as no they are not twisted together...
