To be fair, the period following WW1 was a very confusing one with lots of different capital ship designs being bandied about. If you aren't aware of this it's easy to get things wrong. The MM995 design is more elegant and traditional than the actual 1921 G3 design but in fact the RN at this time was being quite innovative. Grouping all the main armament ahead of the machinery spaces allowed for a more effective distribution of armour and as the Navy's policy was always to attack, the lack of heavy guns which could fire dead astern was not seen as a disadvantage.

That must be the source of their confusion...

The description on the website matches that of ... [but] The illustration they have used ...

take no notice of the illustration.
If you look in the scale sail section they have pictures of a biplane for a schooner.
I think there is a toy truck in there as well somewhere.

I imagine that someone has reordered a table in the database, but only reordered the column with the illustrations. So anything could pop up anywhere.

Still reckon it's HMS Lion. Have a look at:

www.geocities.com/alt_naval/lion.htm

A fascinating site well worth a look for anyone interested in naval 'what might have been'.

The illustration of the "Invincible" on the Hobby Store site is the same as  the MM/995 Invincible in the old Plans Handbook. The Hobby Store blurb is incorrect and obviously belongs to a different plan. The Plans Handbook gives length of 45 inches and beam just over 5 inches - not 49 inches and 7 inches as quoted by Hobby Store.

The Invincible illustration is clearly not based on the projected HMS Lion in the Geocities photo. It is definitely a 1920s design which features a long narrow "battlecruiser" hull with bridgework similar to the 1923 Nelson and Rodney. The funnels are close together with no provision for an aircraft catapult as would have been provided for in HMS Lion. The secondary armament is clearly 6 inch twin mouints as fitted to Nelson and Rodney. Lion would have had the 5.25 inch DP mounts fitted to the KGV class. The Geocities illustration, which is obviously a "doctored" KGV class clearly shows the 5.25 inch secondary armament and widely spaced funnels. Finally, Invincible is a battlecruiser and Lion a battleship! I rest my case!
