Hello all,

Let me introduce myself first. My name is Johan vd Slik, I live in the Netherlands near the region of Eindhoven and my hobby is renovating my 2 modelboats. Currently I own a model of a supplyvessel Smit-Lloyd 109
at 1/50th scale  and a RNLI Solent class lifeboatmodel from Aerokits (1/12th scale) which I obtained via eBay a few months ago.

I have a few questions regarding the availabiltiy of some fitting parts for this Solent class lifeboatmodel. I do realize now that it is hard to get these special fitting parts of older RNLI lifeboat models like
from the Solent class types as you can read in some earlier posts.

Currently I'm looking for a radar mast (the one which stands behind the wheelhouse) and a lightmast which stands on top of the wheelhouse. Is there something available e.g. from a webstore that does looks
like a radiomast or radarmast which is suitable for this kind of model ?

Further I do have some raling stanchions with 3-holes, 73mm and 50mm long but I thought that these where used by the 47ft Watson lifeboat types and the 2-hole stanchions where used by this kind of model,
also on the real lifeboat. I do have some 2-hole stanchions, 72mm long but it is not complete. I still need the vertical (triangular) plates for the kickingboard, I have got only 12 pcs and the 50mm stanchions is not complete.
I do not know what to do now, take the 3-hole stanchions as I have them all at home (both 72mm and 50mm, total of 32pcs) or order a whole new RNLI stanchions set e.g. from modelslipway or similar webshop ?!
The name of my Solent class lifeboat will be the RNLB Lady MacRobert.

Can anyone help me with this and give me some advice ?

Many thanks in advance and kind regards,

Johan, try giving john Wright at Caldercarft/Jotika a telephone call.

He did at one stage have the manufacturing rights to Aerokit models, and might have the moulds for the Solent Lifeboat.

I'm not saying that he has, but it might be worth a try.

neil.

I'm after some more stanchions for my Solent. I'm trying to get some off Dave Metcalf, the ones on the Alice Upjohn (Rother Class Lifeboat) are virtually identical to the ones fitted on many Solents.
As for the masts etc they'll probably have to be scratch built. They're not too complicated though and should be fairly easy to make out of plasticard and careful soldering.
I'll probably start a thread on the refurbishment of mine. I'll be replacing the windows, kickboards and stanchions, modifying the rudders, adding more detail and giving it a repaint. Should give it a new lease of life once done. Dave.  :-))
