That is a class 91 and DVT. You can fit a DCC chip to any loco although for the early ones without the socket you would need to 'hard wire' it (solder 4 wires). If I remember that Class 91 predates DCC so will need a chip hard wiring.

There you go
http://www.hornbyguide.com/class_details.asp?classid=103

Yes it can be DCC'd but as the previous poster said it would need hard wiring (soldered directly to the loco).  It's quite an easy install as there is quite a bit of space inside the body.

Ive hard wired decoders into several N gauge locos so if you want any advice please ask

does  £35 sound like a reasonable price for a second hand one. supposedly in good running condition. and i will certainly be in contact re wiring if i do get it thanks.

If its for the pair in boxes then its about the right price.  But be warned finding matching carriages might be a challenge... IC swallow Carriages are quite sought after so command quite high prices

I saw in the December issue of Model Rail magazine that Hornby is re-introducing their Mk2d carriages in InterCity livery. However, I'm not sure if they would be suitable for use with the Class 91.

Mk 4's with the class 91. You don't see many of them in swallow livery either.

Just did a little checking and its a ringfield motor, so its either one of 2 things.... easy to conver to DCC detatch a couple of wires and solder... or its gonna be a sod if its the live casing version of the ringfield

See here
http://www.brian-lambert.co.uk/DCC.htm

Scroll down to about 2/3s the way down

Im just DCCing 2 ringfields at the moment both thankfully have been the easy ones.  Just fitting lights now and detailing the cab interiors

earlly intercitys ringfields are a pig to wire as you need to isolate one side od the morot and alter the pickups the front bogie picks up the one side and the rear picks up the other track there loads of info on net about ring field conversion

good little forum for anything model train related is. http://www.modelrailforum.com/forums/index.php?

i was rebulding my layout but i got pulledback into the world of radio controlled models Again !!!!! (my layout was/is modern image mainly EWS and DRS)

thank you again essex for that site. found a bit more info. loco is no. 91014 which according to hornby was part of a set (R696). seller had bought the set in 1998 from the UK so its a well travelled train.
