Nozzles + props...
« on: November 19, 2011, 11:36:00 am »

Any of you fellas tell me how far the prop needs to be inside a steering nozzle to work properly? Mine is about the same as in the attached diagram...is  that about right?

The problem would come when the steering nozzle turns. Part of the propeller would then be outside the inducted water in the tube.

The ideal place would be dead centre of the depth of the nozzle.

(maybe   :})

Rich,
It is usual to have the prop either 1/3 or 1/2 way into the Kort.
1/2 way for manouverability (thrust and steering astern) 1/3 for ahead efficiency as this allows the Kort to have an aerofoil section which increases thrust.

Ok, that won't be a problem, I have a good 1/2" of prop shaft length to play with, so I can have the prop further inside the nozzle.

Thanks Bob & Ken, much appreciated.

Tips of the blades should be directly underneath the steering post.

In ASD drive the props are right at the back, but the nozzle doesn't steer around them.
