Boiler, pipe insulation source?
« on: November 29, 2011, 11:36:06 am »

I bought some sample high temp insulation from McMaster-Carr, here in the US to see if it might work for our purposes.  The pics show what arrived.  It appears very supple and smooth.  I'm hoping I can use the self adhesive strip by cutting them into 1/4" strips and using them for pipe insulation.  Do you think the 275*F adhesive will hold? I don't know if the edges will fray after being cut.  The insulation itself is said to withstand 1800*F.   I also bought some 6" wide for wrapping boilers.  I'm just a beginner at this and experimenting.  I thought the prices were reasonable too.  McMaster has lightening fast and reasonable cost shipping (I'm not affiliated in any way).  I just thought this may be of interest to some of you.

I Have no idea if it will work,it looks like the type of thing sold by motorsport suppliers over hear for pipe protection from hand burning , unfortunately it is completely diffrent from the insulation we tend to use, it is not that expensive and it can be sent in squares in an envelope, it will be hear befor your boiler the idea of the type we use on boilers is to keep heat in more than protection
