Fair enough. I actually use microgyros esc's, never had any problems. I do own one Mtroniks ESC, which has been reliable so far, but I have heard of a few of them going bang.

In fairness I think that the problem was beyond the product spec, Up untill then we also had no problems..  I have started to use an Action one for the Phatom/Fulmar I have , Currently sellotaped onto the battery and have had no problems, also testing a M'Gyro in a fast speed boat and again none of the problems I had before in the same boat.. Only issue is the Mtroniks are water proof. and in the skimmer they neeed to be..

You can make microgyros ESC's waterproof by sealing of the ends of the heatshrink with araldite or silicone rubber.

The mtroniks ESC I have (sub8) is only rated up to 9.6 volts, and it's used on 8.4 volts. The controllers you have should run on 12 volts no problem.

I would contact Mtroniks, explain the problem to them, they should replace them as it's good PR for their company.

decided to go the action route reliable repairable and a real good rep

im certain as white is white i had no wires touching im so so puzzled and gutted especially if i can not get an exchange as i removed the tamiya type plugs.
it states in instructions fit inline fuse between batt and esc but then the small print says removing plug cancels your warranty

I don't see how they can enforce that, especially when they fit a 15A connector to a 20A ESC

what 900 motors are they ? and have you actuly tested the current draw or are you going by what the company say it should be ?

900 12 pole motors friend useng same motors has had them on bench and can not get no more than 8.5 amps out of them he uses these all the time for tug towing and only uses 15amp electronize speed controllers

This is wot i do to get round the warranty part put the in line fuse between the plug & ESC i think it's about time mtronik's started to do this it may save them in the long run on ESC'S been sent back
A picture of a 20AMP viper  ESC fitted with a 15AMP fuse i use & a led i made up to fit on the lead acid battery's

forgot to say the esc blew with no load as soon as they turned on .they were working ok then blew a fuse between batt and esc i replaced fuse esc went bang but did not nlow fuse again

are these the ones that have been pushed on mayhem , if by bench test it was on the bench and in hand is one thing but if it was in the boat it can be a lot more amps depending on the installation. also a change of props by two mm can up the amps dramatically.

afraid so yes these are the motors , they been set in a gig and the sshaaft has been put in a vice between twopieces of wood untill motor stalls and pulling 8.5amps stalled thats all i know,
my motors was in boat on the   table with no props like i said the motors were not running when blew it had just been turned on no fuses blew just thick white smoke and a large bang lol

just worried if they wernt faulty and it happens again

Well since going over to ACTion speed controllers I havnt had a problem,funny thing was last year at mayhem I forgot a speed controller so had to buy a Mtronics one well it lasted all of 10 mins and it burnt out,my personal opinion of them is .....well I would have a life ban off here if i typed it out ACTion all the way for me

It was in a springer tug running 6v on a std springer motor think it is a 500

bit of good news mtroniks have sent new speed controllers today will not be using them though going down route of action for speed control.
so when they arive they will be listed on here for sale pm me if intrested i thought about £20 each including postage these will have 24 mth warranty offers welcome if you want the two, only going down action route as i think my motors may need bigger amps

I suspect one of (or both) motors, how have you mounted them? Are they held with screws/bolts on the motor mounts, are any of the bolts going too far into the motor and catching the windings, causing a partial seizure and/or short circuit? I doubt TWO mtroniks esc's would blow up, especially on the bench, either that or something with your wiring is amiss, any pics of your set up, that would help?, this needs to be resolved before you connect up the new esc, dont wa\nt to blow that up also!
 try connecting the motors one at a time direct to the battery, let it run a bit, see what happens, hold the motor in a vice but dont short it out, those 900 size motors should not get warm on only 12v, or 6v if you can, and if you have an amp meter connect this up and see what the readings are? Are the motors new, might be worth talking to the vendor

Most ESCs come with current limiting - they will not allow more than their rated current before their protection circuit shuts them down.  A fuse between ESC and motor does nothing other than provide a handy test point.
If an ESC has an internal fault, a fuse between the ESC and battery is the only protection that the boat has.  The ESC can offer no limiting to current coming in down the power lead.  The fuse stops a faulty ESC damaging the boat, it protects the battery  and the wiring against excessive discharge.  This is important - a 7AH SLA is perfectly capable of delivering upwards of 100 amps.  It might not survive that delivery, but it can supply that kind of current into a fault load.
The mention of "glowing wire" is a BAD SIGN.  There is a great deal more current going down that wire than there should be.
