Hello Workboat,

I put a thread on the forum for the same thing about a week ago.

Here is the response I had by email

"yes, MM1338 Al Khubar is available from us. You can purchase it for £9.95 + £1.75 p&p. Our contact details are below - if you would like to order by email, please include your card type/number/expiry date/3 digit security code, splitting the details over 2 emails for security if you wish. If you order by post, please make your cheque payable to Magicalia Media Ltd.

Thank you for your enquiry.

Kind regards

Hi,

They are the model boats plans from the eighties, I had a copy years ago but sold it when i had no modelling space, now I have a workshop again I have re-ordered them. I cannot remember the scale but it is bigger than the Model Slipway kit.

Dougal replied to my post in "wants" with this "The model is 40 inches long with 14 inch beam". I remember the write up in Model Boats said it could pull a row boat with a person in.

Workboat
Issue was Feb 1983 but save your time 'cos I've found it and scanned in the article at high resolution. Files are over 10 meg in total but prints look very clear. PM me your snail mail address and I'll post them to you.
Can confirm model scale is 1/2 in = 1 foot, or 40 ins long x 14 ins beam. Prototype was powered by 2 x 12v Decaperms.
Good luck.

Hi Workboat,

According to my 1998 catalogue the plan is the design of one Laurie White (he of Model Slipway fame) so I suspect some decent quality there. However, it also says that there is no model construction detail shown. It is rated 3* which decodes as "for experienced builders or those who have built one or two similar models and those prepared to read up on constructional techniques."

Hi Workboat,

I had started building my first Al Khubar back in the early nineties when I first bought a copy of the plan. For that one I had used a combination of thin birch ply and fibreglass tissue to skin the hull. The bow was infilled and carved. I passed that hull on when I relocated to the Lake District.

Not sure what I will do to construct this one, need to rebuild my shed first. Will post in a few months time.
