Hello everyone! I've just sailed away.
« on: December 20, 2011, 03:37:51 pm »

Hello!

I was always planning to start my adventure with radio controlled boats. Luckily, couple weeks ago I found old German pond yacht called Gunther Sturmvogel Segelboot in one of the charity shops in West London. I have managed to convert this yacht into radio controlled "vessel". I don't have any experience with RC yachts but I do sail time to time in real life. My sailing skills were actually very helpful in my project. I had at home Parkzone Trojan plane with servos and radio (badly crashed on maiden flight) and I have decided to use radio equipment from mentioned plane. After some research I bought cheap £25 2.4ghz system instead of old Parkzone 35mhz.

Last Saturday I went to the local pond and had a little test day with my small boat. I was very happy with the results. I did notice that rudder must be replaced with bigger one (better efficiency in light winds) and in future I would like to improve sails and rigging. Unfortunately I didn't compare my boat to the others but I think it is not the fastest one, more cruiser type of boat. Anyway I was very happy! I have managed to take some shots. I hope you will like it. I am planing to work on her in the nearest future and I will keep you updated.

Btw. I would like to say hi to everyone! I am a new forum member. Sorry for my "English"

thanks
Szymon

Hi and welcome to Mayhem.

That is a very good start indeed. Very impressed with what you have achieved.  Ask away, if you have any questions as we would all love to hear from you.

Welcome Szymon,
That is a very nice job you have done.
Keep the 35MHz for flight only. It's not allowed for boats or cars.
The rudder does seem very small and a deeper wider one will give you
the control you need.
