Motors and ESC's for 12th Scale Mersey Lifeboat
« on: January 02, 2012, 12:26:46 pm »

Hi Folks..

Just getting a parts list together for my proposed build of a 12th Scale Mersey (Local Station) but what recommendations do people have for the motors and esc's for the Mersey Lifeboat.

Many thanks

Hi Mate,

What voltage/battery setup are you planning??

Try Giantcod, For brushless motors and ebay for esc,

I picked up xyh motors 4260 600kv for an Arun 1/12, but thats slightly larger than the mersey.

Or these> http://www.giantcod.co.uk/advanced_search_result.php?keywords=4250  / Either 600 or 800kv upto you.
You could buy motor mount at same time just 1! and position both as required in hull.
Regarding couplings> http://www.mobilemarinemodels.com/acatalog/Safety_Couplings.html

You can pick up Turnigy 60 - 80 Amp Esc with water cooling from ebay for resonable cost and a programming card if required for £8.

Hi Batfish..

At the moment I'm not sure what voltage(s) I am going to use because apart from the motors and esc's, I hope to have 'authentic' looking nav lights, radar etc.  I'm looking at a couple of the Action Electronic kits to see how I can combine everything together.

Hi Mate,

Have a word with Action. And see what you can get as an alround package, Incl brushed motors and esc. Good advice from them.
And you never know you might get a discount.... Buying all the components at same time.

Discount, you trying to give Dave a heart attack ?

Great bloke, great service, great electric thingumies, but please think of his age.

By the way his new P94, which sets itself up, is far superior to the original P94 and works fine even with the cheaper radio control systems.

You certanly wont go wrong with a setup from Dave @ Action.
I was initially wary of the cost, but after installing it I would not of fitted anything else.
I have opted for twin 14.8 lipo battery sticks for the drive motors, to keep the weight down in the hull, following strong advise from "MBD" [models by design], dropping a gel battery in will take the weight up too much. Then run a single 12v nimh stick for the sound unit. this way I can make sure the weight of the battery packs can be spread about to balance the hull better.
