Vladyka MTB 67
« on: December 03, 2011, 10:03:29 am »

Here is a picture of my grandson's first model boat. We built it from a Vladyka kit obtained from Puffin models.

The kit was very good value for money at £30 including fittings and a MIG 400 motor and was easy to build. As yet we have not fitted any deck fittings or the torpedo tubes.

Must admit I have been surprised for some time that more of these are not seen around.  The importers puffin are just a mile down the road from me and they have a decent range for starter boats with motors all included.  They are a nice size and easily super detailed.

The MTB kit is very easy to build and a sound introduction for a youngster. My grandson is really pleased with his boat.

At some point i will buy another kit and convert it a little...........

Well, thanks awfully old chap...

I didn't realise there was that much room inside them...and for that amount of money too.

Thanks again,

I checked the Vladyka website and oddly enough they sell the kit without the motor for €30,00.

Hmm, I'll have to see what shipping costs are involved both from the UK and from the Chech republic...

Hi Jan

I don't think you would regret buying one. For the money I was expecting something 'cheap' but we found the kit to be of very good quality and an excellent buy for the money. It was a pleasure to build.

The instructions were not in English but the drawing and assembly diagram are very clear and so there is no real need for a set of written instructions.

The included propshaft, coupling, propeller and rudder are of good quality and look like they will stand the test of time.

Well the 67 finally had its maiden voyage today. It ran really well with a good turn of speed and easily got up on the plane. Very nice handling as well although tight high speed turns are a little heart-stopping.

My grandson found it very easy to control and he is delighted with it.

After 1/2 hour running on choppy water there was no water whatsoever inside the hull.

I can recommend this kit - it is excellent for the money and runs really well.

My setup is: standard MIG 400 motor as supplied with the kit, standard prop, 30 amp forward only ESC and 6 cell 5000mah nimh.

Looking forward to running it again. It was fun.

We just got our Number One Son one of these MTBs for Xmas.  I shall twist his arm to write a build log for you. Keep your eyes peeled.

As said above, the kit seems rather good. I know it's "only" vac formed plastic but it seems pretty heavy gauge plastic. I'm glad to hear that the finished boat performs well, I think Thing one would be upset it if didn't.

I can't imagine what you might be drivng at Dave  :embarrassed:

Actually, once he got over the fear of foreign instructions, he's been doing well on his own.

Hi Jan

Sorry - we did not take any pictures of the boat running. I will try and get some next time we run it.

I made some modifications to the rudder tube on mine. As standard the rudder tube comes in two parts which you glue together. I used these but then the hole out to fit a brass tube so that the rudder shaft now runs in a metal tube. I also added some extra supports to the rudder tube.

Cheers

Hi Jon,
yes, I noticed the extra webbing to the rubber tube. I think I'll encourage plenty of epoxy filler inside ours.
