Merry Christmas to all you Mayhemmers!

I'm looking for a source for the mahogany strips that are used to cover boilers.  I have a source for the brass bands, just looking for the strips.  Also, do you attach them to the boiler other than with the bands?  Do you leave them raw or do you finish them with urethane or varnish?  I have some ceramic cloth insulation that I want to wrap the boiler with, should the strips be attached to that somehow or just hold everything together with the bands?  TIA

Merry Christmas

Hi Muieers
The last boiler I cladded I wrapped the insulating material around the boiler then held it in place with thin fuse wire then did the same with the planks then instant glued the edge of the planks then used polyurethane varnish and then fitted the straps .
All the best
Bob

PS I get my wood from these people. But I dont know if they ship to USA.

Thank you Bob, I was able to find some mahogany strips at model expo.  They are 5/64 X 15/64 and approx. 20" long.  I believe that translates to 2mm X 6mm.  I hope that is an appropriate size for lagging my boiler and condenser.

Thank you Logoman, that is a great tutorial on lagging a boiler.  I have a question though.  When you are finished is there a layer of tape between the lagging and the insulation?  I may not follow how you hold the lagging strips together while attaching to the boiler if the outer layer of tape has been removed.  Thanks
