3 Hp is about 2200 watts, which at 12 volts is nearly 200 amps, this means a High voltage set-up is preferable, at least 24 volts, I would get at least a minimum 150 amp ESC and a motor like this.

http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__17707__XK5692_540KV_Brushless_Inrunner.html on 24 volts or 6S Lipo

or perhaps this 780 Kv version

http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__18854__T5692_Turnigy_Pro_Comp_Brushless_Inrunner_Motor_780kv.html

There are a few outrunner types that would work but the in-runner is easier to cool with a water jacket.

Do you know what RPM your getting,  This might help in selecting something.

Cheers

Not enough power and way to high Kv.

If you want a comparison the US guys are putting these in 47" boats that weighs 8-9 Kg's

http://www.castlecreations.com/products/2028_motor.html

they run 10 cells with surface piercing props

On 6 cell would be good for the subsurface Mocom prop.

A customer used twin t 600 outrunners 880 kv on 6s two hk 200 amp esc and she runs 50 mph easy.He has since changed to twin hi model 1100 kv motors because one motor got damaged when his battery came loose and hit one motor ouch.

motors, these are monster power and equally as good as leopard motors at less than half the cost.
