Lights Can I
« on: January 08, 2012, 02:11:25 pm »

Hello Friends,
Can I some how run 6v gow bulbs off my main  12v battery or would it just be easier to have a 6v and a 12v in the boat  and maybe even my bow thruster all off the 12v.

                                      Regards Howard.

Two bulbs in series is 12V. In theory will slightly reduce bulb life but shouldn't make that amount of difference. The other way would be a voltage regulator which would give better bulb life. Filament bulbs like these are sensitive to voltage. Better would be LEDS with a resistor.

If you link two 6v bulbs in series this gives you 12v requirement. May i suggest using LEDs? This has been covered on other threads. With the appropiate resistor you can use 6v  or 12v. Or any other voltage. Most bow thrusters use 7.2v.Again this has been covered before. I run my thruster off 12v but am careful not to run it to fast the imprellor can come off. John.

Yeh run em in series Howard  , or change over to led's and drop a resistor in .
Or you could just stick a 4.8 bat pack in and run them in paralell ,
me i just want to see a finished boat   :-)) .
