My new boat.

My brother bought a similar boat which I've asked a few questions about on here but I've decided to buy this for myself.
Just wondered what your guys opinions are? And would putting brass props on this boat make any difference? Cheers again guys.

No, don't fit anything clever (or expensive) to this boat unless you are planning to radically upgrade it!

The hull design on these boats is actually very nice but the radio and running gear ... 'is what it is', ie. it's not very powerful, efficient or robust. I have one of these, 2 come to think of it and I got half way through rebuilding it before i was distracted!

Good hull, needs a "real" radio, better batteries, proper speed controller & rudder.

Have a look on YouTube for NQD boats, one I saw runs real nice on Brushless motors!

Having spent a lot of money upgrading this type of plastic boat, my advice would be to buy a decent boat to start with, as you'll end up spending more on it in bits and pieces, trying to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear, than it's worth....honestly  ok2

Cheers guys. Could I at least replace the standard battery (1800mah) 7.2v ni-cd (is this different to ni-mh??) with say a 5000mah?

Basically you will not notice the difference.

The main difference is that when charging a ni-cad it should be fully discharged first.

The ni-mh does not need to be fully discharged first.

Hope this helps.

Ni Cads if I am right are rather OLD fashioned and have a tendency not to hold their charge and are rather low in amps. The NIMH have a better range of amps and they do hold their charge for longer and are not prone to a memory.

Again great replys. So can I buy a ni-mh and simply replace my ni-cd or will my boat not take this battery?

As long as they are both 7.2volts

The more mAh you have the longer the run time.

As a direct replacement for powering your boat then NiCd replaced by NimH is fine - no issues whatsoever.  Just make sure the charger that you use is NimH compatible. If it's a slow charger then there should be no problem - a fast charger just needs to be checked to ensure compatibility.

A lot of these NQD boats use cheap radio systems that are not fantastic and can cause interference with other boats on similar systems. just another thing to check if running amongst other boaters.

Cheers. My boat is 27mhz and my brothers is 40 so hoping they should be fine. There's usually no none else where we go.
