any suggestions what to do with this hull
« on: May 20, 2012, 02:00:27 pm »

Hi, all.
I have been given this hull and thought I would have a go at building something, but I have no idea what the hull is or what to build.
It is 35 inches long and 8.5 at its widest point. Does anyone recognize it. I would be grateful of some ideas and maybe plan suggestions that would suit it.
I was thinking of maybe a mtb or gin palace or destroyer. This will be my first attempt at scratch building, I normally build kits.

Hi,

Instead of an MTB what about a stealth version?

Anyone else out there ?
With all the wealth of experience that used to frequent these pages, surely someone has some ideas.

I've just been three weeks building a wooden version of this hull of yours.   :}

It looks to be very close to a Fairmile D type gun boat from the Second War era, so you could be right.

I have exactly the same type of hull, when I bought it I was told it was for an ELCO / Higgins mtb boat

That looks to me like a hull that I have, its a perkasa type hull see this post for my ideas
http://www.modelboatmayhem.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=36694.msg366692#msg366692
Basically I cut the hull down and put the deck at a lower level as the sides on a perkasa are quite deep. I am still working on the design for the three superstructures that will go with this hull.

Hi, Must admit they look similar except for the bow is rounded not pointed, so to speak. The
 bow puts me in mind of a huntsman. Wish I had not sold it now.  :((
