Thank you nhp651

Back on topic, if this went well i.e a few people turned up and so on, then next time / thing we could do is to talk to the harbour master which i know, and get lock lake closed to the public ( not a hard thing todo ) Then to set up a course ( bouyed ) for people to try and get around, you can park on ferry road, 10 feet from your car is the water and we could sit on a stone beach and do anything there? We would have one hour before high tide to one hour after, so a good two hours to play with, its not so bad for boat washs from the marina either and a nice place to be on a sunny afternoon

Im sure i could make some gates and put them all over the lake and we could draw up a course, for all types of boats, im sure if we did something like this, we could make it a more fun thing and invite a few clubs and have something abit better to invite people along for ( maybe a 2013 idear )

Once again Neil raizes sound views. May i suggest just the sail to start with. Then next year possibly more. I do wonder if the Rnli have a fund collecter who could attend just to collect only. Possibly Neil would Know. No doubt a license would be required . Good luck John.

thank you for highlighting the problems that your team encountered in your marathon last year , i know of at least three people who would like to take up the challenge of navigating the proposed section of langstone , one of which will need to use his electric wheelchair , while operating his 1/32nd scale sun 21 tug , his daughter could " borrow " one of my models ( as her own 1/24th target towing launch is a bit small ) while i have at least three suitable vessels , a fairey huntsman 31 ( chasser de mer ) a fairey spear and a scale motor sailer all at 1/12th scale . jon

Evening all, first of all let me thank our Mods who kindly fixed my Forum access problems tonight, I had managed to get myself locked out in such a way that I required the sending of a confirmation email which I was unable to respond to through my (new-ish!  {-)) email address being unreadable, unrecognisable or unwhateverable...hence the radio silence for the past few days, giving you all some peace...the Mods may now be inundated by requests for more frequent ayrshire andy outages!   %%

Anyway! I just wanted to acknowledge and thank you all for your continued excellent Langstone cruise and fundraising ideas, and explain better what I meant in Post #88...

I did n't mean to discourage anyone from fundraising, hell no, if you have an idea get the necessary permissions and get stuck in please...what I meant was that I had wrongly been given a share of the credit for all of Ryan's great work, I have done next to b***er all really, Ryan, Neil and many of you have probably forgotten more about boating and fundraising than I have ever known, please do keep up with the good work and being a good example to the noobs like moi!

It's all down to the local council whether they will allow the RNLI or any charity for that matter to collect on the roadside in public areas and places or not.........
I know that with the sojourn to Loch Ness last year, the only place that the RNLI and any helpers were allowed to collect with their buckets was on private land, because the local Highland council would only allow each charity to do one public collection per year, and from what I gathered from the ladies at the northwest region centre.......this is true of basically every council in the land, to give each charity a fair crack of the whip...................so if you're to go down that road, you must check, or you could possibly run into legal difficulties as well as thr wrath of the RNLI.

ben two of us already know the tide times and heights of tide  1605 hrs @4.6 mtrs & 1654 hrs @ 4.4mtrs , i  can normally operate upto two hours either side of the high water time , which will give us a four hour window

we have less of a window with the safety boat unless any one want to help me pull it up the slipway, its rather heavy so normaly launch just when tide comes high enough and get back at high tide so there is less slipway to pull it up

although a safty boat might sound useful , i think practically a canoe is a better bet , with a suitable trolly it could even be taken with the model operators & only launched if required ? that way we dont have a problem having to anchor / moor a dinghy somewhere until the next tide !

KK dont you have a berth at the ECA on the pontoons? Could just leave it on there till the next high tide

i think it would depend on which direction we intend to travel ? if we start at eastney & head northwards towards the mainland wont we run the risk of a dinghy running out of water ?

No shouldnt do, long as the saftey boat keeps an eye on the hight of the tide, at the worst case the saftey boat has to tie up at the marina untill the next tide, which is like £5 if they bother to charge at all  :-)) you can/ should be able to still get across the mud at 3 hours either side of the tide, we normaly say two hours with a real boat bacuse it draws more

Dan

P.s untill they build the new pontoons down at the ECA then its going to me even worse!!!!

are you intending to use an outboard with your dinghy , or a pair of oars ?  have we any idea of numbers of people likely to attend yet ?

ben ive looked at tide heights for july ,the 7/8th arent too bad at 4.7 &4.8 metres  alternativly early august is also blessed with spring tides ! Aere you doing a solo display at beale ? most of your fellow team members are probably displaying at alfold !
