MTB Conversions?
« on: February 23, 2012, 09:54:29 am »

Just picked up a part built Precedent Perkasa MTB. The hull is more or less finished but no superstruture. I was wondering, as there seems to be a lot of normal MTB type boats around, that I might be tempted to finish this one off as something else. Was wondering if they were ever converted into other types? I seem to remember reading somewhere that some of them were used in the 50's and 60's by smugglers. I may be mistaken as also read somewhere about the Fairmile, was that a conversion or something different.

Anyway any ideas of what this could be finished as other than an MTB would be appreciated.

And 20 years or more previous.

I watched that the other day, good film.  Richard Attenborough, George Baker and Bill Owen (Yes, Compo, from "Last of the Summer Wine!") and of course M.G.B 1087;  6 pdr forward, Twin 20 mm aft and Vickers 'K' guns on the bridge.

as alternatives the scandinavians used the design and called it the soloven although these were more based on the brave borderer and the libyans used it and called it the susa. the susa had ss12 missiles on it or you could just do the brave borderer but it's been done.

Nearly forgot, the good ole Vic Smeed "Dimarcha" deep sea motor yacht based on a Vosper design  MM836 (if the motley crew haven't lost it)

There's a WW2 MTB moored in the N.Shields marina that somebody has spent most of his life converting into a mobile houseboat.
It appears that the MTB hulls have been put to all sorts of usues. BY.

I think Onassis or another Greek shipowner had one built as a private yacht.
