Re - Chequered Plate

FYI - I have recovered "Chequered Plate" from a broken Aluminium Suitcase. This was very thin and light.
I have also made "Chequered" runways / gratings from scrapped VHS tape cases. (various patterns) say 7" x 3/4"

The plasticard stuff is good but it really depends on the finish.

Take your time in getting the painting right and it looks amazing, if it's not done right it can look really rough (as I've found out!)

There was a guy on ebay that was selling it in a tape form. Like rolls of electrical tape but it looked like shiny chequer plate. Not sure if it's still for sale there, that worked great for small areas (doesn't join seamlessly too well) with a spray of matte top-coat.

The plasticard plate looks good if you use the Humbrol metallic finish which you rub over with a cloth after it is dry to burnish the highlights.

If you just want a simple diamond pattern i.e with the ridges in diamond formation at about 2mm pitch, then a lot of the strapping used for pallets could work. It's normally only 1/2" wide but......
