Have just finished most of my Cheddar Pintail: - Please excuse the poor photography.

I am new to steam but have really enjoyed putting this kit together.

Very  nice , get some steam oil for it , and as you are new to steam never use WD40 near the engine or the seals as it can make a mess of them , the kit should have come with steam oil that is used in all applications .Jerry Watson he runs Cleavland steam and is now getting together a good supply of the small bits that can wear out, buy the way these engines run forever by the way and very little will wear out.
have fun with the build keep it bog standard as supplied and you will have a good reliable boat , extras can be a bit  confusing.

the hull is a great choice.

Good Luck

Thanks for the advice Peter.

I plan to keep the engine exactly as per the kit because, with my very limited experience, I cannot imagine I could add anything that would improve it. I have the steam oil that came with the kit and have more on order.

The kit was really easy to put together, everything fitted exactly as per the instructions - it is such a shame that Cheddar are no longer with us.

Cheers

Hi Jon!
This has also been my first steam-engine some eight years ago. It runs like a clockwork :-) Enjoy!

Thanks Kaspar

I think I am about a week away from being able to run it. It will be great to see it running for the first time.

Cheers

The last bits i need for the pintail should be here this week - a gas jet and the screws I need to mount it to a board for testing.

All being well I will be ordering the hull this week.

Well done, just noticed you do not seam to have a steam stop valve on the steam outlet from the boiler you will find it beneficial to have one ,you can controle the amount of steam going to the engine and by keeping it closed while the boiler reaches the required pressure you will not waste steam and stop a lot of unwanted condensate. kind regards Allan

one of these will screw straight in to the top of the boiler then you will have to straighten the pipe a bit the best way is to heat up the bend then when cold tease it to fit or replace the pipe.

It certainly is an example of a life's dream Terry  :-))

.......just a cosmetic touch  %) ....you could turn the pressure gauge around so the stocker [man with the bag of coal] could see the boiler pressure.......  {-) .....Derek
