I don't know the particulars, but I'm guessing it's scratch built and about 1/12, looking at the workmate it's sitting on.

Apparently it had just been repaired and was due to go on display at the Ilfracombe station.

Help wanted model missing
« Reply #28 on: March 23, 2012, 06:41:58 pm »

We need your help. A model lifeboat was stolen from RNLI Whitby Museum on Tuesday. It was of a 1940s Ilfracombe lifeboat - the 'Richard Silver Oliver' - and was due to be sent to Ilfracombe to be displayed. It is only an 18-inch home-made m...odel, but it's extremely valuable to us. It is the only one we had of that boat and it had very kindly been donated to us. If you know anything about the theft, please contact us or the police. Please also look out for it in antique or bric-a-brac shops, particularly in the Whitby area, and on internet sales sites like eBay. We'd be so grateful. Thank you.

The RNLI have asked us at Model Boats to publicise the loss too:

I am writing to see if you could kindly help us with drawing your readers' attention to a stolen model as I understand that you sometimes feature such things? The model is of the Richard Silver Oliver, an RNLI Ilfracombe lifeboat from 1945.  The model was scratch built shortly after that date.  It is about 18" long and 8" wide.  The model was stolen from the RNLI's Lifeboat Museum at Whitby on 20 March 2012. The case was not taken.  The police are aware. We would like maritime modellers to be aware of this so that they do not inadvertently acquire stolen goods.  The model was due to be put on public display at Ilfracombe Lifeboat Station, so you will appreciate how sad it is that this lovely model should have been stolen from a museum and a charity. Any help you could give us with publicising this would be greatly appreciated. May I suggest that someone has a word with a few of the local low lifes, maybe offer a a few quid or a selection of illicit substances as an incentive for information leading to a good kicking, followed by a swift phone call to the local plod to come and collect said low life?

I had over £3000's grands worth of fishing tackle stolen from my garage...a word here and there resulted in a piece of paper with a name and address popping through my letterbox. We won't go any further with the retributions and what happened, but it worked for me...so it may work in the this case?

Can be quite an effective method of getting your stuff back (I have done something similar when my car was broken into)

Its not violence when the victim gets retribution..

The difference between law and justice is as vast as the horizon.

I think there would be a lot less crime if convicts were treated like this
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8EI7p2p1QJI

Having watched this show last night, you could tell that the staff were on their best behaviour because the cameras were there.  But I think that this sort of regime would certainly help reduce repeat offences

The model was stolen, it wasn't beaten up!

Seems there are quite a few on here who think violence is acceptable behaviour....  <*<

Under the right circumstances then yes it is, as there are some people in this world that understand little else
Besides I wouldn't call it violence... more corporal punishment

Isn't Finland the place where they beat each other with branches in the snow for pleasure? I suppose that explains it then....

Ah, yes, that's it. Isn't there also some activity with a reindeer involved as well?

You'd think in this day and age a high tech equivilent of the Stocks could be devised.  Perhap some kind of visable branding which could be removed at the end of a sentence.
It'd be interesting to see how often someone would want to have "THIEF" tatooed across his forehead.
As for these low life I'd prefer something more interesting involving a rising tide and crabs.
