re build of vosper mtb 379
« on: March 24, 2012, 12:42:33 am »

Hello again folks

Great that Martin has the forum up and running again many thanks Martin, I am building the Vosper MTB No 379 as featured in the April 2011 issue of Model Boats Magazine, on the plan it is designed to run on two engines   MFA Torpedo 500s  however I bought the woodpack for the hull and the dvd that accompanies it, and it says you can run it on one motor unfortunately it does not say what motor might be suitable and I have built the hull a first for me!! to run on one motor  and any tips etc would be welcome if any other member has built this model. Thanks all the best,John.

Hi John,

Did you read this topic?
http://www.modelboatmayhem.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=31199.0
In the fourth reply is all the info on the motor used for the single motor set-up. (a Graupner Speed 500)

hi there pompebled
I think you have the wrong model in you link ,it not the one from the Model Boats mag its from the marine modelling mag Traplet publications

for this model i would go for the high RPM graupner 600 on 7.2 volt

Oops, my bad...

A Speed 600 would suit the model better indeed.

If you want long runtimes, get the equivalent in a brushless outrunner like this:
http://www.leaderhobby.com/product.asp?ID=9394001223689
On 3S you'll have 16500 rpm at the (30 - 36 mm X-) prop under load.

Preferably mounted on a watercooled mount.

Regards, Jan.

Hello John, my father has built one, he built it with 2 Graupner 400 6v motors driving 35mm brass propellers, on a 6v battery. It will pick up its skirts and go when asked to and will potter about with the odd high speed pass for 30 Min's +. He did make some small changes when building it, mainly he used ply for the ribs instead of balsa. Have attached a photo of it on the water
He has just started to build a second one, this time he has had the plans enlarged to 1:24 scale which makes it about 3 foot long!
being wider as well he's toying with the idea of running it with 3 Graupner 600 motors.
