TVR1A Direction and Speed Control
« on: April 03, 2012, 03:33:01 am »

Hi,

Does anyone have any clever ways to control the TVR1A's direction and speed off of just the throttle stick?

ACTion suggested programming a PIC but that's way over my head.

Thanks,

Hi,

I had a combined throttle and direction stick with my steam boat for a while (using a PIC by the way), but reverted to separate controls because they gave better way of operating the boat.

For manoueverability, you can't beat slamming the engine into astern to avoid a collision without having to go through shutting the steam regulator and opening it again. Also, having found a suitable cruising speed, the setting isn't disturb if you want to go astern and then back to ahead.

You've also got the neutral position if you want to stop.

I'm sure controlling the engine with just the throttle stick is possible with a more advanced remote, but I'd rather use separate controls for throttle and valve gear (direction). It's easier to finely adjust speed and perhaps even cut-off.
