which servo
« on: April 21, 2012, 09:36:22 pm »

Building my sparrow, I'm at the stage where I'm putting the servos in. Lookin at the plans it seems to be an ordinary servo. I went to my local model shop and they said that the one in the book wouldn't have enough torque. Is that true as they were trying to sell me a sail servo what is 4times the price. I have two systems one is a a four channel and the other is 2 channel both already have servos . which one do Go for

Standard size servo with high torque you need? Go for a Savox SC0252MG

Hi Andy
I've got both futuba and hitec servos that I used on a model plane. Will they suffice?

Well what do you actually need them to do?

One to move the rudder, and the other to move the sails

For the sails on an arm, I'd go with the 0252, rudder depends entirely on how big it is...

Hi, if you are looking for a cheap arm type sail servo have a look at the high torque standard servos that Howes of Oxford have, much cheaper than a standard sail servo smaller and lighter as well.

I've used the Howes ser1500 in a Victoria as the sail servo and a Futaba 3003 as the rudder servo.
I also have the S3003 in my marblehead so plenty of torque for the rudder.
Last year my Vic was run down by a trimaran tangled up with it and lay on it's side
full of water for around 20 mins until we rescued them.
After leaving to dry naturally for a few days everything worked perfectly.
Good enough for me and the price is right  :-))
No connection with Howes. Just a satisfied customer.
