hi , i have bought a clyde puffer called highlander,ihave been told they were no such name, it should have been called maid of scotland,does anyone know who owned it , or any of its history john.

it was the generic name given by Frank Hinchliffe to his Puffer, and was a representation of the 66' puffer that plied it's trade arouind the Western Isles and the Crinnan canal of Scotland.
So, no, there wasn't a puffer called Highlander, but would represent quite a number of other real puffers, with a little changing and reseafch.

As you have been told, there was never a real puffer called "Highlander". The Mountfleet model is a generic example. The model called "Maid of Scotland" was built by Martin for Jan Specht in Germany.

On the homepage of Model Boat Mayhem, click on "My Builds" (Down the left hand side), then click on "The Build"

There's also a build log in "Working Vessels", called "Martin's Mountfleet Highlander Puffer" which you will find invaluable.

My tame (?) puffer expert tells me that neither of the the names quoted applied to a full-size vessel.

I have it at the back of my mind (so I'm probably wrong) that many Puffers names ended in 'light'
So maybe pick something you like - for example if trees then Rowan Light or Wych Light etc?
Try to avoid Coor's, Bud, Miller etc, I do.

I named my puffer 'IONA' after the Scottish Island 'cos it meant fewer letters to stick on !
