Water exhausts
« on: June 07, 2012, 01:45:03 pm »

Can anyone suggest a way to simulate the exhaust cooling water coming  form the engines. Can do it with a pump but that just provides a constant stream of water. What I'm after is a pulsed stream of water. Any ideas suggestions?

Thanks

If on a pump can you not just "pulse" the voltage to what you require ?

Even a simple timer relay would give you a few options with and "on" and "off" time ?

I used a pulse output unit from Maplins, you can set the time delay between each pulse so it simulates a bilge pump quite good..

Hi
On a 'real' boat marine engine there is a continuously running pump, the pulse of the water in the exhaust is probably due to the volume of space in the 'water lock'.

lThis is not just a silencer but a place where the water can be collected when the engine stops to prevent it running back to the cylinder head.
A small container with an output higher than the input should be able to replicate the pulsing effect.

good luck

I used to run a copy model of Streamlinia and she was steam powered.  The water pick up for the boiler was a small "scoop" aft of the propeller.  There was a water outlet an inch or so above the waterline.  When I converted to electric I just connected the inlet to the outlet with  neoprene tubing to avoid removing anything.
This surprisingly gives a slightly intermittent water flow.  Might suit and has no working parts.
