discuss your fleet :)
« on: May 08, 2006, 07:40:50 pm »

owning several boats, i was wandering what everyone else has, and any particular favourite model you may have and why, or if you have a boat with problems, whar are the problems and did you solve them?

My main 4 boats are currently in my gallery in the main mayhem page, though right now espirit d'atlantique has steering issues, i think one of the rudders needs tightenning up, lets hope this is the case.  apart from that, I rate Celestia and Gemini, the two nuclear boats are my personal favourites, partucularly Celestia, which is based on the Sydney Star.

Having 3... one RTF Wyeforce, RTF Sail and still under construction a West Highland Coaster.

Boats i like to have:

Northlight (66ft coaster)
Sealight (88ft coaster)
Admirality Coaster
"HMS Resolve" and the "Imara".

I like old steamships, thats why these are my favourites.

Problems "Wyeforce":

-bad manouverability
-very loud gearbox

I have a Tyne Class Lifeboat from the MB vac formed hull at 1-20, a mostly finshed 1-20 scale Mersey Class built from scratch. I also have a hull for a Severn at 1-25, but that only has the deck and running gear in at the moment. I haven't sailed for quite some time though, due to work commitments, but theres always hope..! :)
When (If!) I ever finish the 2 of them, I would love to build the Slipway Trent, or maybe even Speedlines 'mini' Severn if it comes into production. As you can probably tell, I like my lifeboats! Unfortunately at 1-12 they are a bit large, hence the reason I have them at a smaller scale. I suppose I need a bigger house..!!!

yep, i have the same boat from graupner, and steering, forget it! it trakes about 18 feet to swing round.  gearbox shine is typical of all boxes.  that is why she does not see the water much!

Celestia and Gemini turn briliant, especially given that Celestia is nearly 4ft long!

I have turned into a lifeboat nut, and contrary to popular opinion, it's not because I got a big tin of orange paint cheap and couldn't find any other orange boats ! ?My parents, both still building and sailing have joined in, so between us the boats currently available for sailing are:

1:8 ?Atlantic 21 with DO-DO launching trolley and working tractor
1:12 ?Brede from Kingston Mouldings - excellent handling boat
1:12 Rother - Metcalf Mouldings kit
1:20 Keith Nelson class ( only one ever built)
1:20 Waveney (modified Billings Coastguard)
1:20 Arun ( Metcalf Mouldings)
1:36 (app) Trent ( Moderl slipway "rescue" boat) - 2 off - one as a boat for kids to have a go with at the club
1:?? ?Severn, the one sold by the RNLI as ready to run, but stripped and fitted with proper motors and radio gear
1:40 Waveney - the small Billings one, fully radio controlled

boats on the slips are

1:20 Brede from a kit by K S Marine Models
1:20 Medina - semi scale, built onto a modified 1:12 Atlantic hull
1:20 Severn - using a modified Model Slipway Trent hull as a starting point
1:16 Barnett - restoration job, bought as a wreck, but beautifull double diagonal planked hull
1:16 Mersey - glass mould and hull made, just waiting it's turn in the queue !

and I have two Airfix 1:72 Severns on order as soon as they are released ( latest quoted date is "June") one of which I am sure I will shoehorn some radio gear into ?::) ?I would love to get it light enough so that I could hang a lump of ballast below the hull to counterbalance a 1:72 sea King hovering above it on piano wire ?:o

Cheers

Aston

ps long term project is a 1:72 Fearless ?:o

Oh dear, lots of models around.....
My "Homefleet" is:

HMS Lord Nelson, scratchbuilt scale 1:100
HMS Mohawk, modified kit scale 1:96
HMS P-49, scratchbuilt scale 1:100
HMS Velox, scratchbuilt scale 1:100
SS Herman Fritzen, Turretdeck Merchantman, scratchbuilt scale 1:100
Nils Holgerson, small sailing Yacht scale 1:25
70`CMB103MT, scratchbuilt scale 1:24

My favourite boat at the moment is the 70`CMB, but mostly I go the pond with my P-Class Patrol boat. I like the appearance of that narrow boat which runs well and dry!

Under construction:
Sir Lancelot, scale 1:32 Kit

... and thousand others in my mind, but not enough time and money to get them all done........

I left out the P-class as Sam does not know about it yet, he is building the PBM pilot boat and I am restoring a US heavy crusier which I left off as well as trying to get to grips with the Tug and Yamato. When He see's it he will want to start as soona s he finished whatever he is building, the pilot boat should be finished by July so I guess he will start the P-boat then.

The other stuff we have 'on the slips' are
1/24 Thames sailing barge
1/24 Vosper MTB
1 foot fishing boat
Astec Falcon to be re-built after a fire on board
FE outrigger awaiting motor, esc and setting up
Boston Blenheim
USS Enterprise 1/350
P class WW1 patrol boat ( in hiding until Sam's birthday)
Caldercraft Clyde Puffer (Sam's kit last Christmas)
1/350 Bismarck
USS America and Admiral Kuznetsov both 1/700 this is a challenge to get them r/c and floating the right way up
HMS Cumberland Type 22 batch 3 awaiting a photo survay when we get to Devonport in August

As you can see not a bad list to build, but then again there is two of us now building them. Wife now askes questions whenever we think about something new, guess its time to stop buying and build for a while.

Daryl, though you think that one lifetime is enough to get all plans done?

So do I, still heading for a wife with a six-figure income and another 250 years to live to get all the ideas done which are running on my mind....  ::)

My wife says that, now junior is building the conservatory where they live is filling up. Hopefully I might see them built but as long as Sam is happy with what we are doing thats all that matters. We enjoy the challengies and allways look for the odd, bizarre and unusual, bit like me realy!

Just the one, a RTR Thunder Tiger "Majestic". The plan was to get onto the water as soon as possible while I built my Model Slipway 10 Hatch Coaster.
